  • "House is beautiful and location is excellent."

Views from front of house are stunning and being able to hear the sea is so relaxing. Top lounge was our favourite place to relax even having to climb steep stairs to get there.

  • "Lovely clean property, with fabulous view from the top lounge."

Decorated tastefully and certainly gives the wow factor. Only negative is that it isn't really suitable for elderly guests as the stairs are quite steep, especially the set up to the top lounge and bedroom. My 80 year old Dad only went up there once and as he felt unsafe, it limited our use of the lounge and the fabulous views. Everything else was fabulous

  • "This is our 2nd time of staying in this lovely house, views can’t be beaten!"

My only grievance is, it seems ridiculous not to be able to gain access until 6pm and leave by 9am, I know everyone blames covid, but beds are already stripped and no one can take 9 hours to clean.

That beautiful view and gorgeous interior can't be beaten. Love the new kitchen! Might be our last time as next year we would need a charging point for an electric car

  • "We had the most enjoyable stay at Captain's Rest."

The facilities and comfort in the house are excellent, so much so I'm about to book again for next year. The only draw back for some visitors would be the stairs to the top lounge, not a problem for me but perhaps for others. This is one of the best holiday homes we've stayed in.

  • "The property was fabulous, and as described."

Well equipped, clean and very comfortable. Check in was easy - the keys were in a key safe. The only negative was the check in and out times - we weren't allowed in until 6pm on the Friday, and had to be out by 9.30am on the Monday. As it was we had a very long journey each way so didn't affect us too much, but would have been frustrating (and we wouldn't have booked the property) if we'd had less of a journey to make. But otherwise, a wonderful break.

I loved going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the sea . Also the house is in a perfect spot for exploring Snowdonia and the lyn peninsula. I really didn’t want to leave to come home . We will definitely be back . Thankyou .

Exceptionally well maintained with every kitchen item / utensil you could need. Extra thought put into this house to make it so lovely for a holiday stay….. blankets, soft towels, fantastic quality pillows. The only criticism we could have was the WIFI. It was poor and sometimes unavailable.

  • "We loved the Captain's Rest."

It's a beautiful home with everything provided that you need while away from your own home. The one draw back I could see would be the lack of outdoor space in the summer months. You can walk across the road to the beach but the beach right in front of the house isn't dog friendly so you'd have to walk a little way down the street to get to the dog friendly beach. It would have been nice to be able to sit outside at the house or on a balcony but alas there wasn't either space. All in all, we absolutely loved the space though and walking up and down three flights to stairs many times a day kept us fit. The views from all the sea-facing windows are amazing but particularly the third floor massive window looking down at the sea and beach. Great for people watching in the evening!

The house is lovely was nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. The furnishings are high and and looked brand new Spacious yet homely on three levels it is a really calm house in a location just below the castle. However by far the best feature is the view. The house fronts the sea separated only by a road and stands high above a pebble beach. The house’s main bedroom overlooks this but on the third floor is a further sitting area with a panoramic picture window overlooking the same south facing view. Wonderful, even during the wind and rain you can spend hours just watching the sea crash ashore We liked it a lot Worth noting that there are quite a few stairs in the house and those to the top floor are quite steep but that is a tiny quibble

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Captain’s Rest."

We were a family of 6, four adults and two children and we was very comfortable. The house was lovely and clean and very spacious. The furnishings and decor was lovely. Despite being the summer holidays we were able to park two cars outside with no issues. The kitchen was well equipped and clean and we cooked there most nights. We also enjoyed a BBQ on the beach. The only small downside was the WIFI only worked if you sat at the dining table, there was a signal booster extension which we connected to, but although the signal was good from it, we were not able to use the internet from it. Overall we had an amazing time, and I have recommended already to family and friends. We definitely want to come back again! The weather was good, it was easy to access north Wales and there was plenty to do in Criccieth. We even saw dolphins right outside the house. Couldn’t believe how close to the shore they came

  • "We booked the whole house but not all the beds were made, the kitchen and utensils were not clean."

There was no welcome pack and no toilet paper at all. White hand towels were all stained. The ground floor has a strong smell of damp, the lady next door confirmed that hers was as bad but there is no mention of this is the particulars. Despite several phone calls and requests that someone from Menai or Sykes view the property, whether we were in or out, no one did except to leave a cake on the doorstep. We were offered a maximum refund of £55 which was grudgingly accepted, After years of self catering abroad and at home this is the first time we have had to complain.

Thank you for your review we appreciate your feedback and take all comments very seriously. I am sorry you did not feel Menai Holidays did enough to help you. Sadly our offer to send the housekeeper back was declined. We inspect all of our cottages to ensure they meet our standards. Property Owner

  • "Superb coastal house with a homely feel."

We stayed at the end of the holiday season by which time the house looked a little jaded with walls scuffed and in need of a lick of paint and freshen up. A lot of cobwebs around light fittings & dirty bedroom doors. Not the standard of cleanliness I have come to expect from 'Menai' from several other bookings. Absolutely no other complaints as the house is in a fabulous location stocked with all a family needs for a great holiday.

The ground floor sitting room has sofas set around a gas log burner effect stove and a wall hung flat screen TV. On the third floor you’ll find the second sitting room.

It has a large window with views out to sea, a large corner sofa, books and board games for entertainment if you can bear to tear your gaze away from the views!

This is the ideal space for a bit of relaxation. The contemporary kitchen is bright and has a Rangemaster cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and fridge freezer.

From the kitchen you can head into the dining room which has a glass roof!

This room is brilliant in the summer, but bright in the winter months. On the first floor are two lovely bedrooms.

The master room has a king sized bed and sea views.

The second room has twin single beds.

On the third floor is another bedroom which has a double bed.

Captain’s Rest has two family bathrooms, one with large walk-in shower, loo, wash hand basin and underfloor heating.

The second bathroom has a shower, loo and wash hand basin. There is no garden here, however there is a small paved area to the front where you can sit on the bench to enjoy a morning coffee if you like.

At the back there is a gravelled narrow space where you can store bikes.

However, you are literally overlooking the beach at Captain’s Rest. The best bit about staying in Criccieth is that there’s so much here without having to jump in the car.

Fab places to eat and drink, great walks, a castle, to explore and lovely local shops.

Some of the best ice cream is found in Cadwaladers and the best fish n chip shop on the Llŷn Peninsula are both less than a two minute walk away.

You’re close to attractions, activities and fab places to eat and drink.

Happy holiday memories will be made here!
