Ellesmere 3 miles; Oswestry 5 miles; Shrewsbury 20 miles.
The tiny hamlet of Welsh Frankton stands between the famous village of Whittington, the birthplace of the first Lord Mayor of London, and the delightful town of Ellesmere, which is a pretty market town with Tudor, Georgian and Victorian buildings, found nestling between the beautiful mere (lake) and the Shropshire/Llangollen Canal, in an area known as Shropshire's Lakeland. Originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon settlement, Ellesmere is steeped in history. The town is home to the lovely Church of Saint Mary, with its 15th Century roof and Thomas Telford was based in the town while building the canal. There are a variety of shops, good pubs and restaurants and an abundance of entertainment on and around the nine lakes, which surround the town. Stroll through Cremorne Gardens, enjoy fishing and sailing or explore Colemere Country Park with its wonderful wildlife and scenic walks. As the townspeople say, there really is ‘a mere for all’!

Previous visitors' comments about The Byre, Brynallt Country Park:
We were made welcome as soon as we arrived, by the owner with a welcoming pack. The place was cosy and relaxing and helped us enjoy a very pleasant week. Never been to the area before, we wondered how we had missed it all these years.

First class holiday let, The owners make you feel very welcome. Good fenced in garden for dogs. A very good relaxing holiday with plenty to do on days out and good place to stop to see Shropshire. Good food at the Black Lion Hotel in Ellesmere.

The garden and paddock; our two Westies, Ben and Bailey, loved the freedom. Also the lovely welcome pack; wine and chocolates - nice surprise. The cottage was a credit to the owners. I rate it 5 star.
