Wem 5 miles; Ellesmere 6 miles.
The small, scattered village of Northwood, nestles between the pretty Shropshire market towns of Wem and Ellesmere and consists of a handful of houses and an excellent pub with adjoining restaurant. Historic Wem, home of the infamous Jeffrey's “the hanging” Judge and renowned for its real ales and the modern Sweet Pea flower, has provided a central point for local trade since Saxon times and its weekly market still holds this tradition, attracting visitors from across the county. The beautiful town of Ellesmere, with its Medieval streets littered with Georgian and Victorian houses and quaint, half-timbered buildings, is situated just 6 miles away, amidst an area known as Shropshire's Lakeland and offers an abundance of shops, pubs and fine restaurants. Take a boat trip across the magnificent glacial mere out onto the Llangollen canal or enjoy a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Aboretum and Cremorne Gardens with its wonderful wildlife and scenic walks. Stokesay Castle, medieval Shrewsbury and Ludlow and the fascinating museums at Ironbridge are all within easy reach. A lovely location, with something for everyone.

Previous visitors' comments about Top House:
Nice location and not too far to the local pub. Everyone was friendly in there. Nice play area and lake at Ellesmere for the children to have a run around.
Mrs Hughes, Caerphilly, December 2011
The location allowed us to the visit other areas with ease. The layout of the property meant that the whole family were able to do their own thing. Plenty of toys for the younger children and the older boys had lots of reading material.
Mr Roe, Manchester, November 2011
The cottage was wonderful, especially the kitchen and garden. As a keen cook, I am used to taking lots of kitchen equipment with me, but at Top House I need not have bothered. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked. It was also an ideal place for everybody to sit and chat while cooking. The garden was very good too and the children had a great time playing on the slide. The house was perfectly laid out, and the toys were particularly appreciated by our 3 1/2 year and and 18 month old. They hardly looked at their own toys all week. It was a fabulous holiday and we are already looking at when we could return to Top House.
Ms Byrne, Liverpool, September 2011
