  • "Kathie is a great host and very approachable."

We were misdirected by some locals when first arriving at Morfa Lodge which made it more difficult to find than it should have been to find. The property itself is quite a quirky mix of new and old and was more than adequate for our party of 6 over the Christmas week. Morfa lodge is a great location with so many attractions within walking distance : Welsh historic Railways, Port Merion, Black Rock Sands Beach And not to mention other sites such as Harlech castle only a short drive away.

Thank you for choosing to stay at Morfa Lodge over the Christmas period. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the mix of the property's original and new features, making it an out of the ordinary place to stay. We strive to make it as easy as possible for our guests to feel at home in our property and always do our best to ensure you feel welcome here. Morfa Lodge has the luxury of being central to most places, but nicely out of the way to relax in quiet surroundings after a day out and about. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely, slightly eccentric, converted coach house set on the hillside above the middle of Porthmadog."

Lots of character, spacious and well equipped, with lots of period furniture and artefacts collected by (I think) the owners grandparents. Rambling garden which our grandsons loved exploring and easy walking distance from the harbour and shops.

Thank you for choosing to stay at Morfa Lodge. It is definitely a property out-of-the-ordinary, hidden away in the tree canopy above Porthmadog. The character and period furniture were lovingly selected by my grandparents and us in keeping with the age of the property itself. So pleased to hear you enjoyed all it had to offer both internally and the grounds around it. Property Owner

It has a new extension with a beautiful fitted kitchen, downstairs toilet and shower room, utility room and a bright comfy conservatory. We found the lodge very well equipped and a welcome gift of fresh eggs milk and biscuits which was a lovely touch. We were met by the owner Kathie who showed us around and made us feel welcome straight away. We had a fantastic stay

  • "A lovely home with lots of interesting features."

Comfortable and really well equipped. Due to the steps in and out of most rooms and the decorations which give it character, I wouldn't recommend it for those with very young children or mobility issues. It was so nice to have lots of space. The conservatory or living room window seat looking out over the mountains, including Yr Wyddfa, were definitely our highlights. We loved sitting looking at the view, in rain or shine, with our morning coffee!

Thank you for choosing to stay at Morfa Lodge and that you found the property comfortable and well eqipped with plenty of space. The views from the lounge window are pretty amazing on a clear day. The property is full of character and charm that you won't find in every property. Property Owner

  • "The location of this property is perfect for exploring the lovely town of Porthmadog."

The outside of the property is very attractive and the inside is quirky and, as the description says, full of antique furniture. The beds are comfortable, the showers are very good and there is plenty of fridge a freezer space. However, having no dishwasher was a big negative. Also no mirror or shaver point in the downstairs shower room and not enough towel rail to dray the towels. This sitting room is very dark and there is no desk or table next to a power point for plugging in a laptop computer. Most of the property was very clean, but the towel rail and skirting board in the downstairs shower room was dusty and the baking trays and some of the cups had been put back into the kitchen cupboards dirty. Overall the property was okay. Not the best holiday let we've had but certainly not the worst.

Thank you for choosing to stay at Morfa Lodge and that overall you found the property attractive, quirky and central to explore Porthmadog. We will be looking into installing a dishwasher at the end of the season which will enhance our guests future experience. The downstairs bathroom has limited wall space for a wall mirror and power points as we opted for a large heated towel radiator, however we will look into the logistics of alternatives. We have provided a shaving mirror on the window sill downstairs. All the radiators in the bedrooms have towel rails to help dry towels. By the nature of the property being built into rock and nestled in the woods, the main living area has always felt darker than the rest of the house, we have a few free standing lamps that can be used and moved to suit guests needs for light and have provided a couple of movable low tables that can be freely moved to a powerpoint to also meet guests needs. We will pass on your comments regarding the cleaning to our cleaning company who will endevour to recitfy these issues for the future. Property Owner

Very quiet and private road superb. Lots of positives and had a great stay. Property of this size does however need a dishwasher. Holidays are not for washing dishes etc ! Also upstairs bathroom radiator very slow to heat up. Other radiators are great. Thanks

Thank you for choosing to stay at Morfa Lodge and that you appreciated the locality of the house. We will explore the possibility of installing a dishwasher in the future and address the upstairs radiator, as it may have an airlock affecting its use. Property Owner

  • "What a beautiful spacious lodge!"

Lots of space with plenty of areas to lounge about in. The original building has a stunning old interior with extension containing a modern and spacious kitchen/dining area. The upstairs bedrooms were beautiful with access to a small balcony. The lodge and its grounds feels secluded but has the added bonus of takeaways, Aldi and other shops a short walking distance from the property. Our stay was great, on our last day I was still noticing new things and furniture, the property is loaded with history and many things to explore and admire. I would love to stay again!

  • "The location of this property is idyllic for those seeking a hideaway, with amazing birdsong from the surrounding woodland."

Its location means that it might not be suitable for those less agile, unless using a car for every trip to the shops, as it is fairly far above the town. The property is full of character, and everything worked well, although a little scruffy at the rear view from the modern kitchen. Overall lovely. Would only go back if sharing the cost as expensive for two.

  • "Location was perfect for us; a great blend of peace & quiet in a natural setting, while only a 5min stroll from Porthmadog's High Street with shops, restaurants, pubs, etc."

And so close to the Llyn peninsula, with its views and villages, and Portmeirion and Snowdonia. We easily visited all 3 on 3 days. The welcome was covid-inclusive, informative, friendly and spot-on. The Lodge itself is a super blend of old and new. Cosy, traditional, quirky, bags of character, wonderful "natural" garden, with the modern kitchen, conservatory & ground floor shower room. There were only the two of us, so it felt even more spacious, but really, plenty of space for occupants if using all 3 bedrooms. A lovely vibe here. We hope to visit again.

Comfort, well equipped, ideal location (very private), excellent showers, and very clean. Not sure it would be ideal for youngsters, as lots of delicate ornaments and steps etc., but being the older generation, we loved it and couldn't have asked for more. Mrs Paula Bates

Great parking outside the house. Kitchen well fitted out, although a larger refrigerator would be helpful for a place of this size. Beds were comfy, bedrooms large and upstairs shower hot and fierce. Living area was varied and comfortable, kitchen/diner well used. Having loads of towel rails was appreciated. Hope to return in the future.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Morpha Lodge."

It is a unique home mixing historic and modern situated on a hill overlooking Porthmadog. From the Lodge you can walk to shopping (Tescos), cafes and restaurants and even the Ffestiniog Railway. We were however most disappointed with the misleading information provided by Skyes Holiday. There is a section on the web listing for Morpha Lodge that says "Stay at cottages with Wifi" and there was no wifi.

We are used to that being available wherever we rent so I was surprised that it was not there and found it inconvenient myself.

  • "This is a lovely lodge house which is much larger than it looks in the photos on the website."

We arrived on a cold wet afternoon but were given a warm welcome by the property owner who showed us around the house. The house is well equipped and the new mattress which had arrived the week previous was extremely comfortable. The icing on the cake for us was the grand piano in the lounge which had recently been tuned. The kitchen is very modern but if you don’t fancy cooking there are plenty of nice restaurants and bistros within a short drive and in the summer months with fine weather not too far to walk to. Surrounded by trees and with stunning views from most of the windows it is a very relaxing house to spend time in. The only negative comment I could make is that there was no Wi-Fi so make sure you have plenty of data on your mobile phone before you go. We managed to get a 4G signal on O2 most of the time and there is a good selection of tourist leaflets in the property for you to browse through and plan your days out. All in all an excellent property which I would definitely return to for another stay. I would also point out that the owner is very accommodating and is keen to implement any suggestions/correct any problems during your stay. I think the description on the website needs to be updated to reflect this.

Thank you for your feedback and I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are looking into WIFI availability at present and it will likely be in for next season. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was spacious and in a great location for us, close to the centre of Porthmadog yet secluded and with great mountain views."

Some of the furnishings were a little tired, especially the sofas in the living room which is very dark. The kitchen equipment provided could be better. There were no decent knives for preparing vegetables, no baking sheets or roasting pans for use in the oven and the crockery was a very odd assortment with no decent sized cereal bowls. It would also be useful if handwash was provided in each bathroom.

The property

When you enter this charming and quirky holiday cottage it is just like stepping back in time!

Built in the early 1800s by William Maddox, founder of Porthmadog, Morfa Lodge was originally the old coach house and stable block for the nearby manor house.

With antique furniture (the dresser with intricate carvings in the sitting room are believed to be a dowry from 1806) and stunning woodwork, all hand built by the owner's father, a master carpenter, you will feel truly immersed in history. The bright and sunny contemporary style kitchen/diner has views over the harbour and mountains beyond.

There are white modern kitchen units with a microwave, electric hob and eye level oven.

The large sitting room has sofas, a flatscreen TV, dvd and video player, and a stone inglenook fireplace with electric fire.

There is even a piano and a lovely leaded window to sit by and look out at the pretty flowers. There is a ground floor single bedroom and a shower room with loo and wash hand basin.

Upstairs there are another two comfy bedrooms.

One with a double bed and a decorative Juliet balcony overlooking the town's rooftops to the mountains in the distance.

The second bedroom is larger, and has a double bed, and a single bed in the same room.

This also has a decorative Juliet balcony over the cottage gardens, and lovely old oak beams galore. Feather pillows are provided (these can be swapped for synthetic pillows if requested at the time of booking). The family bathroom has a loo, wash hand basin and bath with shower over. There is a sweet little reading area on the landing on the first floor, with an easy chair and lamp.

The antique cabinet is filled with a selection of books and games for some quiet time. Located in a peaceful setting, there is a lawned, private garden (not enclosed) with garden furniture.

There is a parking area for two to three cars. This is an old property, with wobbly walls and bags of character.

It may not suit people who enjoy the clean lines of modern properties.

However, if you are looking for character, old and interesting then this is just the house for you!

Just a five-minute walk from Porthmadog's harbour and bustling town with a selection of shops, restaurants, pubs and the Welsh Highland Railway, you will find plenty to do and see, whatever the weather!

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £350.
