  • "The cottage had everything we needed and the owners were on hand if we needed anything - they offered directions when we discovered the brook near the place had flooded and we had to go around."

There were dog towels, a bowl, baggies and treats for our pooch and we even had a few treats for the humans (and milk for a cuppa). Very well appointed cottage, peaceful surroundings. The nearby royal oak pub was also dog friendly and did really nice food, with a good kids menu too.

  • "Cannot fault the place , lovely clean, warm, comfy, plenty of room, good sized bedrooms, ample cooking and cleaning items to use, nice out door area`s, friendly welcome on arrival, good parking spaces, close to beach`s, villages, town`s and of course Chester zoo, very tranquil good views over the farm land."

and the log fire made our stay even better. The only thing we would suggest is to put some coat hooks and shoe rack in the hall way. Many thanks for our stay.

  • "Beautiful cottage."

Lovely and clean. Bathroom with walk in shower also very clean. Comfy beds and pretty lounge area, kitchen a dream to be in. Really peaceful place to stay. Only drawback is the garden area. The private area outside the side door was very unkempt. Its only a small area but it's a perfect sun trap to be able to enjoy outdoor eating, lounging and sunbathing but unfortunately the grass and borders are too overgrown and really need to be much better maintained. There was dog mess around the borders..not nice to be sitting near to. There were no chairs or even a small table to put a drink on although 3 small garden chairs we provided when we asked the owner as we got fed up hauling kitchen chairs outside in order to be able to sit down with a drink and sunbathe, not very comfortable sitting on a straight back dining chair. Really nice pond containing pond flowers but water so dirty and full of grass cuttings we couldn't see any fish although we knew they were in there somewhere! Perhaps a small team of gardeners could be brought in to maintain that rear garden on a weekly basis during summer so that it can be maintained to that beautiful little area that it should be.

  • "We had an excellent week at the holiday home."

The accommodation was well appointed and Mr and Mrs Cannon made us welcome. The bungalow is on a farm in a rural location so a car is essential. However there is a village nearby which has an excellent pub, a village store and a surprisingly upmarket coffee shop! For exploring the area Chester (including the Zoo) is within easy reach with Park & Ride buses (£2 return) from Wrexham Road about 5 miles away. Also Wrexham, Flint and Mold are less than 10 miles so there are other places to explore. Erddig National Tust is well worth a visit and we spent a whole day there. The large Chester Oaks Designer Outlet at Ellesmere Port is also within range. In all a good week exploring a new area from a comfortable base.

  • "We had a lovely 4 night break at Sandmartins."

On a farm on a nice quiet country lane but within easy reach of the village. Owners were very friendly and helpful and always on hand. The bungalow is really large and very well equipped. We had a small problem with the hot tap in the kitchen, but wasn’t a big deal as there was a dishwasher and tablets supplied. We would definitely stay there again and will recommend to friends and family. If there had been a second toilet that would have been useful.

  • "We had a great holiday, quiet and restful."

The bungalow was warm and comfortable, the weather cold, wet and snow. That did not spoil our break away. Many thanks. Next time maybe in the summer!

  • "Sandmartins is a comfortable, spacious, well equipped bungalow."

It is well placed to visit Chester and the North Wales coastline. The bungalow is situated in a yard with the farmhouse and there is adequate parking. It would have been even better to been able to park on the drive to the bungalow rather than running in the rain from the car to the front door, but really very little else to mention.

The owners Mandy and Les are so lovely and helpful. Our grandson loved seeing the animals and tractors. The bungalow is really lovely and would recommend it. This is not a negative but just a thought that the replacement of the freezer, and a baking sheet would be very useful for families that intend to eat at the property. We would return in the future.

It is in a great position being down a long quiet country lane and yet close to the attractions that Chester has to offer. The owners were very helpful and on site if we needed anything. The flowers and milk on arrival were a nice touch. We would definitely recommend it. The kitchen is spacious and has everything you would need to cook for a family but the local pub is just down the lane and is very welcoming.!

Rooms are spacious with lots of storage. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need, including dishwasher tablets and washing capsules. We cooked ourselves an entire Sunday roast and had everything we needed. Beds comfy with nice thick duvets. Kids were a bit disappointed by the lack of Netflix etc but learnt to watch 'real' TV :). A lovely location to explore the North Wales beaches, Chester Zoo, and the Wirral. A local shop and two friendly pubs in walking distance (but take a torch). We found some lovely dog walks in local nature reserves and Mandy let us wash down the muddy pooches in the old dairy. We had three adults and two kids so had to negotiate around the one bathroom. One recommendation would be a lock on the bathroom door. Thank you, a lovely holiday xx.

  • "Our original cottage was cancelled so we were grateful to be able to book this house over half term."

The owner was welcoming on arrival, and let us know about some local amenities for our small children. The bungalow is on farm on a country road and was peaceful. It is not far from main roads. The house was clean. I hope to be constructive in mentioning that I have stayed in a number of Sykes cottages and I felt that this house, in this price bracket, would benefit from: a king/super king instead of a double in the largest bedroom. The mattress felt raised in the middle so that you were rolling off. The bed was also squeaky. A larger fridge. The under counter fridge is rather small if you planned to cook your own meals. An indoor clothes airer. There is a rotary in the garden which needs more pegs. I also felt that outside furniture and a BBQ, in a screened off area of the garden would greatly add to the amenity. The garden is open to the shared drive. Overall I would recommend this location.

A small shop and two pubs are within walking distance. The property is owned by an extremely nice couple, Les and Mandy, who were very helpful. They even provided a Christmas tree during our stay and fitted lights around the outside of the cottage. It was a pleasure spending time at this accommodation.
