  • "A really well located holiday home that’s surprisingly roomy yet still cosy."

The kitchen was very well equipped which was really appreciated, and each of the bedrooms was so cosy and made for a great night’s sleep. We couldn’t find the back door key but that was probably just us being daft, everything else was made so easy by the instruction email. Very much enjoyed our stay in your wonderful home and we’d love to come back again.

Hi Alice So glad you enjoyed your stay at Clevelyn. Regarding the back door, there is no key. The door can only be opened from the inside using the two bolts on the inside of the door. Please return as welcome back any time. Allison & Tony Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved this place, comfortable, full of chatacter and tastefully furnished, we didn't want to leave!"

Really appreciated the milk and bread which was kindly left for us by the owners. It was cold when we first arrived and took some time to warm up, it could have been more welcoming if the heating had been on in advance of our arrival. Otherwise, though, everything was perfect. We fell in love with Staithes and will be back.

So happy you loved staying in our holiday home. We take on board what you say about the heating being on before you arrive and will strive to do better in the future. You are welcome back anytime, and thank you for your positive review . We will do better next time Property Owner

We had a very comfortable stay in the cottage. Everything was as described. The cottage is very well situated for the village. However, we would recommend booking the private car par in the peak season as you cannot park in the main village. We would recommend Clevelyn and Staithes as somewhere to see and visit.

  • "Wonderful weeks stay in this lovely traditional seaside cottage."

Clevelyn is in such a perfect location and is spacious, very well equipped and beautifully decorated. Thank you for the welcome pack too which was much appreciated! The place does need a little painting and new carpet in areas but this didn’t spoil our enjoyment. Will certainly highly recommend the cottage to friends and family! Great communication and info from Sykes during booking too, thank you. I must mention the parking though which we found quite a pain to be honest. Two options for parking. Council at £6 for 24 hours and an alternative at £16!! No matter what time we got back the council park was always full! Waited over half hour for space one evening and then over 20 mins the following day! Then didn’t want to use car again for rest of week for fear of not getting a space. We used buses thereafter which thankfully was a really good efficient service! I noticed a resident only parking area adjacent to car park which was always half full. Just a suggestion but could a parking permit be obtained for guests and cost of this added to the price of cottage??

Thank you for your review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay in ‘Clevelyn’. You are more than welcome back. As to the parking unfortunately a parking permit would not give you access to the residents parking spots. They are for permanent residents of the village only not holiday let owners. There is a private car park ‘Glenvale’ you can book online and pay upfront for the duration of your stay which guarantees you a dedicated parking spot. Painting (which is touched up regularly) and new carpets is on our agenda for Jan/Feb 2024. Property Owner

Kitchen/dining room fully stocked with all the cooking equipment needed for an army. (I didn't do any, as I was only their for the weekend, but cupboards were full). Staithes has a (short) steep hill from the car park, but an easy walk into the village shops. Short drive to Whitby and Saltburn beach. Ideally placed for the Cleveland way with buses returning from Whitby etc.

Would like information pack to be left more prominent with how to turn heaters on as it took us quite a while to find the switches and cottage was really cold on our arrival. We have stayed in several cottages in staithes and found the Clevelyn to meet all our needs in space and comfort. Hope very much to visit again next year

We have holidayed in Staithes before and were really looking forward to our visit this year. Clevelyn didnt disappoint. First and foremost from the second we walked through the door we knew the place was clean, it smelt it! The kitchen was spotless with freshly pressed tea towels and a new dish sponge. ( I had brought all of my own things in case I needed to use them but there really was no need). The bedrooms and bathroom were all beautiful made up and the lounge was just so comfortable - we relaxed immediately. The weather was poor but who cares about that, we still went on cliff top walks and adventures and we still managed to have amazing food in the Cod and Lobster and pints in the Royal George. I love the little butcher shop and stuffed my face with chocolates from the deli. A proper holiday and just what we needed. We will be back !

The signal is not always great and if you couldn't get a signal at time of arrival you may struggle as the only other option would be to pay with change. The cost would be added to the rentals weekly cost. The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. Lovely village, however I wasn’t fully aware of the extra cost of the daily parking (£5 per day) which added to the cost of the holiday. I feel this should be made aware of in the cottage info. Whilst the cottage had been refurbished in places, new furniture/ kitchen etc, it was also quite grubby in other areas. The windows were very dirty so too areas in the kitchen cupboards/drawers. The toilet in the main bathroom had a tendency to block and the hot water in the evenings ran out. Also felt the bed linen in the double bedroom on the top floor was of a poor quality. All in all , frustratingly the property let itself down which is a shame.

Originally from the area I wanted a base to show my partner and children the sights. We have four boys ranging from 14 to 13 weeks and the cottage was ideal. The boys loved exploring the four floors and having their own rooms on the top floor. The facilities were great and catered for our every need. The cottage was very tastefully decorated with lovely little touches. The only ‘issues’ that some people need to consider is that there is no parking at the property and the stairs are quite steep. Both of these are highlighted in the Cottages’s description and weren’t a problem for us. We sourced local free parking and actually enjoyed the stroll to and from the cars each day. Staithes itself is beautiful. The kids loved playing in the harbour and the river behind the cottage. There is a butchers and sweet shop minutes walk from the cottage and a Co-op and fish and chip shop within walking distance. Out of Staithes we visited Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Falling Foss , Sandsend and Whitby and all were an easy drive away.

No logs or lighters provided which would have been a nice welcome. Ensuite shower room and separate bathroom were really good although the amount of hot water in the cylinder only allowed a small volume of water in the bath before it cooled off. About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
