  • "We arrived at the cottage after a long tiring journey with a 5 month old & a 3 year old,the cottage is old & it felt very cold & damp in the wet weather so we were surprised that the central heating was controlled by the Owner who lived next door."

She said it would come on at 5pm & was not happy when we asked her to put heating on. At 9pm she knocked on the door to ask us to turn some lights off. These restrictions were not mentioned when we booked the cottage. We have never rented a cottage with these restrictions and we certainly wouldn't recommend Dalton Cottage or rent it in the future.

Thank you for your feedback. I did explain that the heating is on all the time controlled by the radiators, if there was any problem to let me know at any point, when I asked if everything was alright I was told it was great. On the second day, I could see that all the lights had been on all night, it was only a polite request to turn them off when not in use, which is apart from anything else is better for the environment.  Property Owner

  • "Nice cosy cottage."

Refurbished kitchen is lovely. Lisa was fabulous and very helpful. Our girls loved being able to ride Abbie her pony in the farmland behind the cottage. It was so nice to wake up and hear only birds and sheep instead of traffic!

  • "This cottage is a charming cottage, well decorated, very cosy and immaculate!"

We had really good times in family in the cottage and the location is perfect to visit the area. In 4 days we visited Whitby, Harrogate, York and Fountains Abbey. We’ll comeback to hike in the natural parks when the weather will be better! Lisa, the owner is so nice, she took time with our kids to show them her horses and her chickens…we really appreciated our journey!

  • "TV and DVD were not working (except for BBC1) and although one does not go on holidays to watch TV, at the end of a day spent out and about, it is nice to put your feet up for a while."

Disappointing. One suggestion: we were amazed there was no shaver point in the cottage. Maybe something to think about for future guests? Otherwise a most enjoyable base for our holiday and a lovely hostess.

Many thanks for your feedback, and we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We can confirm that the TV and DVD player have been reviewed following your stay, and there have been no issues found. We are sorry to hear that you did not contact us during your stay, as we would have been more than happy to assist. Thank you again - the owners. Property Owner

  • "Jasmine Cottage was the perfect place for a very special holiday, we loved it."

It is impossible to tell how quiet it's going to be when looking for a holiday cottage but this is a truly quiet and peaceful spot (as someone mentioned on a previous review). When we weren't out and about (it's very well situated for getting to lots of lovely places), we made the most of sitting out in the lovely garden. The weather during the week was gorgeous, with the patio area and pebbles we were able to move the table and chairs around the garden to suit the sun/shade which was great! Lisa is lovely and was very helpful filling us in on the local area. She rang and booked a table for us at The Angel - Topcliffe, we ended up eating there three times, plus a takeaway - very friendly staff and delicious menu! We will definitely be going there for another holiday, we love the cottage and it is in a very beautiful part of Yorkshire.

  • "I booked this holiday cottage partly on the strength of the cottage garden (in the photographs provided) which looked mature, picturesque and relaxing, only to find to my disappointment a fenced-off graveled area with a substantial lack of shrubs and plants."

The garden furniture was OK but being metal, a bit uncomfortable. The cottage could do with being a bit cleaner, there was some oven trays really dirty and unclean so we chose not to use them. A general overall with cleanliness and a lick of paint should sort things out. Must admit I was rather surprised at the lack of a welcome package, it's the first cottage I have booked which did not provide the very basics...ie milk, bread, eggs etc. Not happy with the fact that the heating is totally controlled by the next-door proprietor, the weather when I went was cold and the heating did not come on until about 5 pm, not good when you come back cold and wet at 2pm ! a fire to put on in the living room would have been welcome. Pity the photographs of the cottage are not up to date. Would I go back, not really, it was a good base for getting around NY but I think I would look for something more to my standards next time.

  • "We had a lovely weekend at Jasmine Cottage."

The weather was glorious and Lisa the property owner was very welcoming and allowed us to arrive a few hours early as there had been no one in the day before. The cottage was very comfortable, especially the beds. It is in a lovely area and there are lots of places to visit within a short distance. We spent a very enjoyable day walking at Sutton Bank with easy going paths which were good even with a baby and pushchair. We also spent a lovely day at Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley. We were however disappointed to find that the very pretty lawned garden shown on the website is sadly now all paving and gravel with very little greenery. The garden was one of the things that attracted me to the cottage as we love to sit outside and it would have been perfect for my 11 month old grandson to explore. It was not really safe to put him down to crawl on gravel or paving. Also the large walk in shower was perfect for the adults in the party but not for a baby and the website does state that there is a bath with shower over. I really think that details and photographs should be kept up to date so that customers are not disappointed or misled.

  • "Thank you for a lovely week long stay in your beautiful little Jasmine Cottage."

It is everything one would expect and enjoy in such an old place. The entrance lobby opens up onto the dining room with old and shabby chic furnishings. The kitchen has plenty of work surface and enough room for 2 people to move around easily. The lounge is surprisingly large with deep comfortable sofas. From the lounge there is access to a small patio and garden with a modest set of table and chairs. The 3 bedrooms are quite spacious. The bathroom has a bath with shower over it rather than a walk in shower. Lisa our host was friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. During our stay in the warm summer of 2018 the cottage stayed nice and warm throughout the night. It has been a pleasure to be able to use your cottage as a base to explore the Dales and the Moors, the market towns and picturesque villages, the nearby castles and Manor houses, to revisit childhood memories and to create new ones. We had quite forgotten just how much we love the area. Personally, we found the main bedroom mattress to be too hard for us, and the lack of WiFi n the cottage was a nuisance, but the local pub, a 5 minute stroll away, did prove to have not only a lively local village atmosphere with good value drinks and a sociable crowd but also a good WiFi reception.
