Location: Skipsea

Hornsea 6 miles; Bridlington 9 miles; Beverley 15 miles.

The village of Skipsea is situated in the Yorkshire Wolds, in a typically rural setting surrounded by rich, agricultural land, yet Skipsea also sits within one mile of the beach and is close to the cliffs of the North Sea. The village has its own Post Office, general store and tea room, a hairdresser’s, a fish and chip shop, and a pub. Many of the houses in the village, both old and new, use cobbles from the sea shore in the building. Just outside the village are the remains of Skipsea Castle. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking and cycling, whilst the nearby seaside towns of Bridlington and Filey boast long sandy beaches and numerous resort attractions. The Deep Submarium at Hull, Sledmere House and Burton Constable Hall are within 20 miles whilst the shops, cathedral and museum of historic York, the resort town of Scarborough and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering are within an hour’s drive, making Skipsea a superb base for a relaxing holiday.

Previous visitors' comments about Elder Cottage:

We loved the cottage, it was very clean and the owners gave us a very friendly warm welcome; even had milk, tea, coffee, sugar, juice and a much appreciated packet of biscuits. It was so peaceful, which was a godsend after a very hectic year. It was nice to have a relaxing break. Thank you. 100 percent recommended.
Mrs Scholes, Normanton, September 2011

Lovely cottage, quiet area, spacious for parking and relaxing in garden area. Well kept and we enjoyed peaceful nights' sleep. The owners were very welcoming - tea, coffee, milk, juice and biscuits all there on arrival, including flowers - all a lovely touch. Good for a very relaxing, quiet week. A spacious outside area, ideal for kids. A good base for traveling to other places of interest. Warm cottage when weather is cold. We have booked a third holiday there in 2012!
Mrs Clarke, Bradford, September 2011

We were very happy with Elder Cottage. In fact, it was probably the best cottage we have stayed in. The garden was very secure for our dog. The owners were very friendly. We would definitely book a Sykes cottage in the future.
Mrs Brighton, Ashbourne, August 2011

The cottage was very nice, and the location was nice and peaceful - what we expected.
