The village of Skipsea is situated in the Yorkshire Wolds, in a typically rural setting surrounded by rich, agricultural land, yet Skipsea also sits within one mile of the beach and is close to the cliffs of the North Sea. The village has its own Post Office, general store and tea room, a hairdresser’s, a fish and chip shop, and a pub. Many of the houses in the village, both old and new, use cobbles from the sea shore in the building. Just outside the village are the remains of Skipsea Castle. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking and cycling, whilst the nearby seaside towns of Bridlington and Filey boast long sandy beaches and numerous resort attractions. The Deep Submarium at Hull, Sledmere House and Burton Constable Hall are within 20 miles whilst the shops, cathedral and museum of historic York, the resort town of Scarborough and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering are within an hour’s drive, making Skipsea a superb base for a relaxing holiday.

Previous visitors' comments about Ivy Cottage:
I booked Ivy Cottage for a family get together over Xmas. The cottage was gorgeous - large enough for us all, 6 adults, but still retained a very cottage feel. It was very warm and hot water was in abundance. It is very well equipped and furnishings are all of a high standard. Real fires were a treat for us. It is clean and quiet, close to the sea and not far from beautiful Beverly. The owners live in an adjoining property and when we had a problem with the telly he promptly went and bought a replacement the same day. Other than that they totally kept themselves to themselves. Really nice people.

A very comfortable and welcoming cosy cottage. The cottage had a nice ambiance and we enjoyed the homely feel of a log and coal fire. Our granddaughters particularly enjoyed the spa bath and toasting marshmallows at the open fire.

Good, quiet location and the size was great, especially the bedrooms. Handy welcome pack. We were really pleased at the supply of books, cds and dvds!

Good dog walking area nearby and the dogs were allowed on some beaches. The owners were very helpful and we have booked again for August 2012!
