Generally a nice little cottage, took a little time to get to grips with the TV as it was/is slow in responding to the remote control, may be because we have sky TV at home I thought the channel selection was very limited and had to resort to the DVD's to watch some thing, we purchased a couple of dvd's from a charity shop and left them for other guests to watch as we wasn't impressed with the selection, liked the cottage

The facilities were of a very high standard and the rooms very well maintained and comfortable - very much a home from home. The addition of an outside seating area was very welcome too. Parking was just across the road and we never had any problem with parking right opposite the house. The local pub is a minutes walk away and very welcoming also.

  • "This was our first time staying at Blink Bonney Cottage."

It was lovely the views are absolutely beautiful. Especially from the bedroom watching the lovely pink sky's and odd nights went to bed early just to listen to the birds singing. The beds were very comfy and everything was there we could need. We enjoyed the Guess Who game it was funny. Sitting outside in the sun in the back was lovely then we sat also on the front. We also took the 11.21 train midweek from Glaisdale Station 3 times to whitby and return, if you time it right when you arrive in Whitby you can catch the X94 bus, onto Robin Hoods bay and return to catch the 15.59 train back to Glaisdale. The northern line is called the pretty line, it was beautiful. Our daughter loved it. We also enjoyed visiting Lealholm the next village, another pretty place and did the stepping stones. We filled up with fuel too there, very handy prior to our journey home, and visited the village store which has everything and also the most gorgeous garden centre and local pub. We had a wonderful stay thank you. Sadly our holiday ended on the last night with sad news of my Dad passing away and I think I was meant to be there when I found out, I went and sat by the stream on our last morning and a blackbird visited, it hopped right up to me and stayed for quite some time, maybe it was my dad visiting me one last time, that's what I'd like to think.

Well equipped and comfortable cottage with walks from the door. Plenty to explore in the local area. Good butcher in the village - we took a freezer order home with us. Best walks - Rosedale circuit and Grosmont to Goathland circuit. Transport links make for town options if the weather is poor. We had a day trip to Newcastle. We knew the area very well but will keep coming back and this cottage would be a candidate for a return visit.

) in Glaisdale where I often spent time when I was a little girl. Blinkbonny is a comfortable cottage with a kitchen that's well equipped too. Glaisdale is a short train ride away from Whitby (it's easy to get to Middlesbrough and points north) on the Esk Valley line if you prefer to have a change from the car. There's lots of stunning North York Moors scenery to enjoy too and Blinkbonny makes an excellent base. Warmly recommended.

The information was totally accurate and the finishings and fabric were of quality. The equipment in the house all worked and the variety of implements meant that it was a real home from home. It was an excellent situation for the day trips we wanted to undertake. Staithes, Runswick Bay, Sandsend, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar NT Coastal Centre, Scarborough were all within reach. Lealholm well worth a visit for Stepping Stones, Garden Centre and Tea Shop. Falling Foss and May Beck circular walk impressive. Being able to play games after making evening meals was such a bonus. Thank you to Rachel and Jonathan for attending to the fine details.

The location was more hilly than we expected and we found walking to the village of Glaisdale a bit too much for us. Easy to get to other areas on the train and we found a lot of relatively flat walks to enjoy. Local pubs etc seem geared towards the start of April/Easter to fully open for a lunch service so be aware.

The cottage is wonderfully situated in the lovely village of Glaisdale, just up the road from the local pub and the train station. The cottage has everything you could need and is very cosy. The owners Jonathan and Rachel leave a welcome pack, of milk, local cake, Rachel's home made marmalade and a Whitby Gazette and are very helpful. There are also provisions in the cottage to use if you want to use them such as tea bags, coffee and all the essential cooking equipment etc. The stairs are quite steep but that wasn't a problem for us and to be expected in character properties. It was so quiet and peaceful and the views were stunning. There are many walks in the area with the added bonus that a lot of the local villages have a train station if you didn't fancy walking home. Whitby is at the end of the line too, so twice we caught the train there and back. I would highly recommend stopping in Blinkbonny.

The property

A charming, stone-built end-terrace cottage, in Glaisdale village, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park.

Set in an elevated position, with lovely views over hills and woodland, this traditional cottage provides a comfortable holiday home for a family or friends wishing to explore the superb surrounding countryside, but be within a few minutes’ drive of the seaside town of Whitby.

Inside the cottage there is a warm and welcoming sitting room, with beamed ceilings and a cosy woodburning stove, where you can relax with a refreshing drink after a busy day in this lovely part of the country.

There is a galley kitchen, whilst cottage stairs lead up to the two pretty bedrooms and family bathroom.

Outside, there is a small, sheltered walled patio, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee whilst taking in the lovely views.

A couple of minutes’ walk brings you to the friendly, local village pub, serving real ales and good food, whilst the village shop and renowned butcher lie half a mile away towards the other end of the village.

Glaisdale is in a wonderful location, with the River Esk meandering through it and with an excellent network of public footpaths, including the Coast to Coast, which passes the door of the cottage.

There is a tiny railway station, with four trains a day passing through to Whitby, enabling guests to leave their car behind and spend a day discovering this historic port, with its famous Abbey and glorious, sandy beaches.

Wander around the cobbled market square and quirky, narrow lanes, partake in tea and cakes in one of the many tea rooms, or take an exhilarating cliff top walk.

With many attractions to visit, including the steam railway at Grosmont and the nearby Danby Moors Centre, this cottage provides a good base for an interesting and varied holiday.

About the location

GLAISDALE

Whitby 9 miles; Pickering 21 miles.

A peaceful village on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, Glaisdale is set amongst beautiful countryside in the heart of the Esk Valley. The village itself has a post office in the general store, an excellent butcher (famed for his pork pies) and one hotel/pub, with restaurant. Further afield, Whitby and the coast are just 9 miles away whilst the quaint moorland villages of Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham and Thornton Dale and the market town of Pickering are all within easy touring distance. For something a little quieter, why not take a trip to the less-discover gem of Saltburn by the Sea, a charming, Victorian seaside resort. The terminus of the North York Moors Railway is at nearby Grosmont, inviting you to take a steam railway ride back in history through beautiful moorland scenery.
