The cottage was very clean, cosy and comfortable. The beds are to die for, not slept so well in ages and so quiet! The court yard was lovely and a sun trap so we could leave the front door open for our dogs to lay out if they wanted without them escaping. The garden was nice to have as well. Nice dog friendly beaches. Lots of walks on the door step. Our hosts were very friendly and approachable. Will definitely return.

We are an elderly couple in late 70s with a sister 85 with Alzheimer's. The wonderful beautiful countryside all round was a pleasure to wonder round. We had nearby Guisborough to browse round shops and other interesting places to visit through the day. Evenings' by the log burner fire watching TV or provided DVDs. Lots fuel for the fire was available so we enjoyed the lovely warm comforting blaze during chilly dark evenings. The kitchen so well equipped with everything we needed including dishwasher and freezer. Beds were comfortable so in all we had a lovely week. This is our second visit and cant wait for the next.

The photo's do not do justice to this gem of a cottage. There is a high walled, gated courtyard at the back of the property, which makes a wonderful secure outside area for even the biggest dogs (we have a Dogue de Bordeux). The rooms are all bigger than expected and the decor, fixtures and fittings are beautiful. The kitchen has everything needed, there is a smaller freezer and a wonderful microwave, which grills etc too, which isn't mentioned. The owners Ruth and Steven are lovely and are fountains of knowledge on the best places to go and things to do. The front garden to the cottage is now seperate from the owners, with a small picket fence around it. You enter and exit the cottage through the enclosed walled yard, as this is where you park your car. To be honest we didn't use the front garden.

About the location

GUISBOROUGH

Saltburn-by-the-Sea 6 miles; Staithes 13 miles; Whitby 21 miles.

Guisborough is an attractive market town set in rural surroundings on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Steeped in history, Guisborough is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the town's most notable feature is the beautiful ruined abbey, Gisborough Priory; standing in full glory, to its original height of 97 feet, the dramatic gothic east gable towers high over the market town and has become a well-known icon of the town. This bustling small town has twice-weekly market days, a good selection of eateries, excellent pubs and many independent shops. Around Guisborough sits the spectacular woodland of Guisborough Forest. Guisborough Forest & Walkway is situated in Pinchinthorpe on the outskirts of Guisborough at the northern end of the A173. It extends for 2.5 miles along part of the route followed by the old Guisborough Branch Railway line, heading west towards Nunthorpe, and east to Guisborough Forest, which is managed by Forest Enterprise. It is a gateway site to the North York Moors National Park and offers splendid views of Roseberry Topping to the south. Points of local interest include Highcliff Nab and Hanging Stone. Captain Cook 92s Monument is also within walking distance. The Cleveland Way and the Tees Link walks pass through Guisborough Forest, and are just two of the many walking routes easily accessible to visitors. This super country park has cycle trails, walking routes, bridleways, a trim trail and an easier sculpture trail. The park includes the Guisborough Walkway which runs along the former trackbed of the Middlesbrough to Whitby railway line. This includes a wetland area with boardwalks, woodlands and grasslands. You can also climb Highcliff Nab for fabulous views of Teeside and the coast. The park is also very popular with mountain bikers with a number of super trails to explore. There is an excellent visitor centre with full details of all the trails in the park. The long distant trail of the Cleveland Way passes close by, whilst nearby Roseberry Topping is well worth the climb to take in the spectacular views. An easy thirty minute drive brings you to the Heritage Coastline, with historic villages and resorts, including Staithes, Saltburn and Whitby to enjoy.
