  • "A lovely stay in a quiet place."

Very warm and cosy. Would love to sit in the enclosed garden in the summer. Safe for the dog. Lots of extra bits, games, jigsaws and books but only found after a few days. Big telly with multiple channels. Nice touch with fresh milk and fabulous parkin.

Layout was perfect and it has everything required for a week’s stay. Only one negative comments / positive recommendation. The property is located on a busy road and the footpath behind the property was overgrown with nettles. With a dog to walk, it would have been better if this had been clear. Otherwise a perfect place.

Easily accessible from the A64. We would recommend the barn for a spring or autumn break. Close to the Yorkshire Wolds and the Yorkshire coast there is lots to do outside of York. Our hosts were very helpful with planning before we arrived and were on hand if we had needed them.

Very peaceful and comfortable. Appreciated the lovely cake that greeted us and the owner coming to check everything was OK when we arrived. We know Yorkshire well and this was in a good position to drive to everywhere we wanted to visit. The garden was appreciated when it was sunny enough to sit out and the surrounding views were lovely. Bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again. My only downside (which is true of most rentals we have used) is that bath towels were small so we ended up using our bath sheet size beach towels. But that really is a small niggle on our part.

The owner had left us a home baked cake and had also added Christmas decorations around the flat, including a small Christmas tree which were very nice touches! We used The Barn as a base for walking around Yorkshire and visiting York. It is situated in a quiet location about 15-20 minutes drive from York and with easy access to the Yorkshire countryside. Having the two bathrooms was definitely a bonus as there were four of us plus our hound. The owner of the cottage was very helpful and checked that everything was okay the day after we arrived.

The owner greeted us on arrive and could not be more helpful. The cottage was very clean with facilities as described. The village of Stamford Bridge was about 1 1/2 mile away with a fully stocked Coop. York was about 15 min drive away as was a good garden centre at Shiptonthorpe. The area was very Dog friendly as was The Barn and garden centre. There are many Dog friendly shops in York and several places where can take your dog in while you have a meal. Ultimate question would we return? YES it was brilliant. Dave & Margaret Bones

"The garden was absolutely great for the dog - ours was still a pup and we needed the security. The garden had a gate but there was nothing to secure it from inside the garden. I don't think we would have thought about it until the neighbour in the other cottage tried to come in whilst the dog was in the garden. He wanted to ask us something and thought it would be ok to come in. After that we secured the gate with a spare dog lead. Perhaps the owner could fit a bolt lock for added security - not just for dogs but for children too"! Cannot fault anything else about the property or area it was excellent. Thank you

About the location

STAMFORD BRIDGE

York 8.5 miles.

Stamford Bridge, as its name suggests, was a fording point over the River Derwent for a Roman settlement. Nowadays, it is a village with a selection of shops and restaurants and is notable for a renovated railway viaduct, which is now used as a cycle and public footpath. The village is well known as the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25th September 1066, which marked the end of the Viking era in Britain. Within easy reach are the pretty Yorkshire market towns of Malton, Beverley and Driffield and within an hour’s drive is the unspoilt coastal resort of Filey with open beaches and the nearby RSPB nature reserve at Bempton.
