The charming village of Lastingham engenders peace and relaxation and has much to offer today’s holidaymaker. It is a place of unique beauty and historic interest, nestling among the folds of hills at the southern edge of the North York Moors. This quiet haven, with less than 100 inhabitants, has a charming olde worlde pub, The Blacksmith’s Arms, but perhaps its most famous building is the splendid and historic Crypt Church of St Mary with its wonderful ancient crypt. The surrounding area has many and varied attractions - The North York Moors Steam Railway, Hutton-le-Hole Folk Museum, Eden Camp Modern History Museum and Flamingo Land Theme Park. There’s an abundance of castles, abbeys, churches and stately homes to visit, including the magnificent Castle Howard. Last, but not least, there’s the glorious countryside - woodland and heather moorland, hills, dales and coast.

This was our second visit and we hope to return in 2013. The Blacksmith Arms pub has very good food.

The cottage was like a little cocoon. It was very cosy and had warm colours.
We loved the wood burner and used it almost every evening. Also, the small village was nice and quiet. It was everything I had expected. The owner gave us a warm welcome. We will certainly come again.

The Hayloft is quirky and very comfortable. Well located for the coast and the country side. Good pub in the pretty village, helpful pleasant owners.
