Marske-by-the-Sea is a small, bustling coastal village with long, wide, sandy beaches. Originally an old fishing village, today it has a selection of local shops and pubs, which cater for all the family, plus the safe, sandy beaches, sand dunes and fishing boats are an attraction. Places of interest nearby include Captain Cook's birthplace, the mining museum and the Zetland Lifeboat Museum. The village is close to a horse riding centre, the stunning scenery of the North York Moors, and the numerous pretty inland villages and fishing villages such as Staithes and Runswick Bay. The old spa town of Saltburn is just 3 miles away and it's an easy drive to other seaside resorts such as Whitby. A great base from which to tour the area.

I visited places I had never been to before and the location of the cottage was very good. Although we were just off the High Street, near to all the shops and pubs it was very quiet and peaceful.
