  • "Was a lovely cottage, perfect for two and one small dog."

The back yard was super secure and lovely area for dog walking. The reading snug in the lounge was simply the best little touch, with the wood burner alight, a glass of wine and a good book, a tiny piece of heaven. The host was really helpful and friendly. If I could recommend one improvement it would be the beds, they’ve all seen better days and need replacement mattresses and ideally the double bed exchanged for a bigger one, plenty of room in the bedroom to accommodate a king size and that would make the stay just about perfect

  • "Cozy, well equipped and comfortable cottage."

Generous welcome pack. Suited our family of two adults and one child, not forgetting our pet dog. Muston is a great location for exploring this area. There is a paved back yard. The grassed garden is a short walk away- must be lovely to sit out in sunny weather and was a necessity for our dog first and last thing. Our dog was always supervised due to multitude of local dog walkers using the pathway at back of the house and two ponies in opposite field during the day. An unusual request for no pan lids to be used had us a bit surprised! Despite the owners explanation of lids possibly causing damage to the hob top - I've always found pan lids ensure food cooks quicker and reduces steam in the kitchen. It's a pity there are some clumsy cooks! Perhaps owners could consider fitting a small dish washer. This could be a real asset as most of us are used to this as a necessity not a luxury.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We have noted your comments & wish to clarify that the previous owners of our cottage had an issue with a pan lid on the hob top causing the glass the crack. We hope to prevent this happening again & causing inconvenience for any guests during their holiday. Property Owner

Handy location for Filey, Scarborough & Bridlington. Completely met our needs so have already booked for next year.

Truly dog friendly owned by fellow dog lovers ( no extra silly rules when you get there! ) Very clean and comfortable and well maintained, only a couple of miles from Filey plenty to do and see in the area. Had to be very careful whilst showering to prevent water spillage ensuring rubber seal in position over bath but there were plenty of notices in place to pint this out

Thank you for your feedback. There is one polite notice in the bathroom to make guests aware that the shower screen rubber needs to be in the correct position. Property Owner

Peaceful village, easy access to Filey, Whitby, Bridlington and York using the park and ride. The cottage is outstanding. A home from home. The owners of Sunnyside Cottage left nothing wanting and there were even hot water bottles, not as they were needed, it truly is a great place to stay.

  • "Sunnyside is a very comfortable cottage which was cleaned to a high standard and well equipped."

The furnishings and beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The house provided an excellent base for exploring the area and visiting the local seaside resorts as well as tourist attractions inland. The one downside of the cottage was that, although Muston is a very pretty village, it straddles a busy through road which runs between Filey and Malton. As the cottage was situated on this road, the traffic noise was often quite considerable, so it wasn't always as peaceful as we had hoped. However, the local people were extremely friendly and pleasant and overall we did enjoy our stay - our first holiday since before the Covid pandemic and much needed.

It was clean and we felt safe during these unprecedented times. Cottage was on a busy road that we weren’t aware off. A lovely location to discover the spectacular coast line and walks that Yorkshire has to offer. Distance from Cottage to Filey beach was a 30 minute walk which was beautiful and a bonus we could walk. Local pub The Ship Inn offered good food and a warm welcome. Dog friendly too. Definitely recommend a visit.

Great central location for exploring the busier seaside towns or the more rural loactions. Fabulous dog friendly beaches at Cayton Bay and Hunmanby Gap. The welcome basket was a lovely touch. The Ship Inn just up the road served delicious home cooked meals with plently of outside seating and dogs welcome. Great off road parking was a bonus. The courtyard was perfect for outside dining as was the seperate garden. Plently of space for the children and dog to stretch their legs whilst the adults sat and relaxed after a busy day. Lots of space inside the cottage too. An ideal place to stay and we would definately book again.

Even during the strange times of Covid where holiday houses (we own one too so know how hard it is to strike a balance) are stripping back on non essential items, the house had everything we needed with some extra touches. We all really enjoyed the garden which is a sun trap, the dog probably the most. It it a 45 minute walk into the centre of Filey but you can knock 5 minutes off if you use the Wolds Way footpath into town, The local pub was very good for proper pub food, nothing too fancy but great quality traditional meals. You really need to book especially at present (August 2020).

Generally really enjoyed the cottage, took a bit of time to get it warmed up, as it had been empty since November, although the storage heaters were on, this time of year you need the fire on, which we did, although the logs left were a little damp, but we persevered and sorted it, generally pretty minor things, we would stay there again

The second bedroom with twin beds was very small with little legroom between the beds and there wasn't a photo of this when I booked unusually. It wasn't a problem however as there was only myself in that room but for two people in there and the heat we have experienced, it probably would have been uncomfortable. There was the best welcome pack ever I have to say in my experience of renting holiday cottages. Although we didn't find any shops in the village, there was a quiet country pub only 50 yards away and but Hunmanby and Filey are only a short distance away. All in all a lovely holiday cottage.

There was plenty of hot water and as much heat as we could have wanted from very efficient night storage heaters. The dog loved the garden and the nearby country walks. the cottage was only 5 mins from Filey beach and seafront and Filey is a beautiful place. About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
