  • "Wold Cottage was perfect for us, my elderly dad was able to use the comfortable downstairs bedroom and bathroom, which gave us peace of mind him not needing to use the stairs."

The orangery provided us with family time around the table and easy access to the enclosed garden, perfect for our dog and family, spending lots of time in the evening sun. Wold Cottage is a beautiful, spacious property and we spent the most wonderful week there, the sunrises were spectacular. Looking forward to returning in the future.

  • "Two of our group have disabilities and would have liked a grab rail in the showers."

The bolt on the upstairs bathroom was misaligned so we couldn’t lock the door. One of the dining room chairs was broken but we were only 4 so didn’t need it. We didn’t use the cooker, washing machine, dryer or heating. We assumed we would need to provide everything but found a welcome basket with coffee, tea, biscuits, dog treats, wine and there was a pint of milk in the fridge. The cupboard underneath the sink had washing up things and dishwasher tablets so we didn’t need to bring those, or drying up towels. Every room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We filled the week going to different places all within a few miles. There are numerous good places to go for meals or coffee and cake. We enjoyed Chinese takeaways and fish and chips. The local church services were 10 am and 5 pm and we found it was very welcoming and friendly. We loved everything about the cottage and location and have booked again for next year.

The garden was safe and secure, as we holiday with Janice's retired Guide Dog that was imperative. The road was busy and noisy, we live in a very quiet area, but NEVER intrusive and we did not notice it after the first night. The cottage is immaculate and 2 of the 4 who stayed run Airbnb so know what goes into keeping a property this well. Location is great, easy access to many attritions, walks, beaches and wildlife, though we did not have to go far as we saw, Partridge and Hares galore from the Orangery ! RECOMMENDED

One small suggestion would be to add some blackout curtains or, curtain liners in the bedrooms that face East. We were blessed with some sunny mornings, and the sunlight woke a couple of us up early as it penetrated the curtains quite easily. Having said that, we would all consider staying at Wold Cottage again when we next visit the area.

  • "Wold Cottage is beautifully presented, furnished, and spotlessly clean."

It is in a great location with easy access to the coast and inland attractions. Hunmanby village is just down the road with useful shops and some nice pubs. We are a multigenerational household so the downstairs bedroom and bathroom worked well for the senior members of our party, whilst we and our children were upstairs. There’s plenty of space to not feel on top of each other. It’s a house for all seasons as the orangery is a beautiful spot in summer to sit and have meals and the huge lounge would be lovely in the winter with a log fire going. The snug and lounge also provided some welcome coolness during the heatwave! Our boys enjoyed the selection of games provided. In terms of equipment, we had everything we needed. We knew there wasn’t a BBQ so we took our own portable one and checked that John, the owner, was happy for us to use it in the courtyard garden, which he was. While we were there the dishwasher broke down so we informed John before we headed off for the day and when we got home he was there to show us the new one he had installed! We really couldn’t fault the service. For us the only downside was the road noise, which others have made reference to. It’s situated on a fairly straight bit of road with a 60mph limit so the noise can be quite intrusive, particularly with the bedroom windows open at night, which was a must during the hot weather! It really is the only negative and not something the owner can change, so as long as you’re aware when you book (which we were), you are prepared for it. Overall, a super week in North Yorkshire, thanks John for sharing your beautiful cottage.

It is a stunning property, spacious but homely. It was home for a week to 6 adults and 2 babies and never felt cramped. The house is well equipped, everything we could have needed for our stay and more. Yes the property sits on a busy trunk road but you soon adapt to the passing traffic which is never constant and in my experience is to be expected on an A-road in rural locations. The hosts were on hand to greet us and nearby if we needed them. The grounds are shared with a smaller cottage but the placement means there is still privacy for both properties. Would love to stay here again, highly recommended.

  • "Such a beautiful cottage, loads of space for us and the dog."

It shares the very large garden with a smaller 2 bed annex but did not matter at all as also has private shingle garden space off the double entry orangery with garden table and chairs for 8. The kitchen and cooking space was spacious and fitted out with quality freezer, oven with induction hob, microwave and dishwasher. A utility room housed a washing machine and a tumble drier. With a double bedroom and full bathroom downstairs, a king size, a double and 1 twin bedroom + bathroom upstairs comfortably sleeping 8 would not be a problem. The conservatory/orangery was a huge space with bench table that would easily seat 10 with plenty of space left over for a bistro table and chairs. The huge lounge area with log burner and must be 55” smart tv had again enough seating for at least 10. The lane it sits on is probably used as a cut through to Hunmanby and therefore you do get some traffic noise but did not effect us. Hunmanby is a minute by bar with pubs take-always and small co-op and shops. Hunmanby gap beach is wide and stretches north to Filey and south to Reighton sands, dog friendly and safe. Visited Yorkshire Whiskey Distillery the home of ‘Filey Bay’ single malt. All together had a very relaxing and extremely comfortable week here. The owners should be very proud to own such a beautiful cottage. All together

The quality of the fixtures, fittings, furniture and furnishings is of a high standard - nothing is cheap or poor quality. The owners are really lovely and John showed us around in creat detail;there was a welcome hamper for us which had tea/coffee milk, sugar and cookies - there was a bottle of wine too which was most appreciated. The big downside was the proximity to the road which, although its classed as a "B road" was really noisy for us, especially for us as we live in the middle of nowhere whith very few cars around, night time was especially difficult for me. On balance this didn't spoil the holiday but I would probably choose somewhere further from a busy road, if you live in a town or city I guess you wouldn't even notice it though.

  • "Wold Cottage is without doubt the best holiday cottage we've ever stayed in - and we've stayed in dozens over the past twenty five years up in North Yorkshire."

Everything about this holiday cottage was perfect, from the ease of booking, the communication from the owner, the friendly warm Yorkshire welcome (and welcome pack, which included a bottle of wine!) The cottage was wonderfully spacious, very comfortable and superbly equipped; we especially enjoyed the large conservatory/orangery and the fabulous wood-burner (which we only used for effect because the central heating was wonderful too, even in the depths of an English winter!) The off-road parking space was brilliant and there was plenty of room to manoeuvre our two cars, and nothing was too much trouble for John and Irene who proved to be perfect and very patient hosts despite our technophobia and failure to understand the clear instructions for the use of the smart TV and the ultra-modern touch control hob! Wold Cottage has everything that one could desire for a relaxing holiday and we would heartily recommend it, especially for families and those (like us) with pets, it was refreshing to let our small dog out to roam around the garden knowing that she was completely safe and couldn't get out because the boundary fence and gates were all secure and well maintained. Wold Cottage is ideally located about a mile or so outside the lovely historic village of Hunmanby with its excellent shopping facilities and eateries, and is just a ten minute drive to the coast and five miles of the best sandy beaches in the area stretching from Filey Brigg down to Reighton Gap and beyond, and for us it is the ideal holiday location. We will be back in the summer!

Nothing is too much trouble for them. We met up with them a couple of weeks after our break to recover some 'forgotten' towels. They were extremely hospitable over coffee and a chat. Towels were washed and aired. Super people. Super accommodation.

  • "Wold Cottage is probably the best cottage we have ever stayed in and we’ve stayed in a lot!"

We were a little concerned at first that it might not be warm enough in November. However our concerns we’re unfounded as the property was warm and cosy throughout our stay- and it snowed! We loved the out of town location as we had no neighbours to worry about which was also a bonus for our little dog. The large driveway and garden are enclosed but again because our dog is a smaller breed he would have probably got under one of the gates and onto the main road but the gravelled area outside the conservatory is completely safe for dogs and children alike. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need if your foodies like us and there is plenty of seating areas throughout. All the bedrooms have views and are very comfortable. The bathrooms are beautiful also. The whole cottage is spotless throughout- clearly the owners take very good care of it. We will definitely be back next year! Thank you to John and Irene for their friendly hospitality

  • "We were amazed at this lovely cottage as soon as we walked in the door - there was a lovely welcome pack of tea - sugar - coffee and milk and even a treat for Oscar the dog!"

The owner came round and kindly showed everything we needed to know and said to ring anytime if we had any queries- which we had none as the Cottage was perfect. It was well equipped for all our needs and so lovely furnished and decorated to a high standard, I would highly recommend this lovely cottage and it was well placed for visiting resorts on east coast and lovely villages. Thanks for a lovely week here.

  • "Wold Cottage is beautiful, we were the first to stay here since the new owners took over and it has been fully renovated to a very high standard, with high spec fixtures and fittings."

Irene and John the owners phoned with key safe and arrival information and John met us just after we arrived to give us an overview of the cottage and answer any questions we had. The photo's do not do this lovely cottage justice, it is very spacious yet retains a lovely cosy feel. The kitchen is so well equipped for preparing and cooking family meals, the orangery has generously sized dining and seating areas, the bedrooms are lovely, the outside space is large and secure, with even a poo bin being provided for our four legged friends, it is perfectly placed for easy access to the surrounding resorts, and a two minute drive to Hunmanby village and a few minutes further to Hunmanby Gap with its great beach, perfect for our dog. The Foxhounds at Flixton serves lovely meals but make sure you are hungry because the portions are massive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the extra touches provided by our hosts like the welcome basket with tea, coffee, sugar, milk and delicious shortbread, along with little added extras like washing machine/dishwasher tablets etc just added to the thought that has gone into making this cottage stand out. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Wold Cottage to our family and friends and the only negative we could find, was that a week wasn't long enough.
