  • "A nice relaxing holiday in this cosy cottage on a working farm."

Iain and Trish were very friendly and helpful. We really appreciated the welcome pack, especially the fresh eggs and homemade fudge. We got to see the chickens that laid the eggs as they would visit the cottage garden along with the resident ducks and a cute little rabbit. We visited local nature reserves and had a walk along the river from the cottage to Wansford where we saw four kingfishers and a water vole.

  • "I have already sent an reply to the nasty email you sent us ( case number COR-228131-CF ) ."

The owner reported us after two days for supposedly breaking the rules which we did not do . I explained it all in my email . THAT PROPERTY SHOULD NOT BE LISTED AS PET FRIENDLY . It was evident from the moment we got there she didn’t like the dogs being in the property and she said she never agreed to allow them there . We could have complained about there being no hot water and terrible WiFi connection but we realise things aren’t perfect in life so we just let it go . In contrast she thinks the opposite . As I have said in my email we left after two days because the atmosphere was not conducive to having an enjoyable holiday . The thing that really upset us was she went into the cottage on a false pretence and took photos of our personnel possessions . This is a deplorable act and I am looking into the legality of it .I have taken photos of all the rooms in the property as to safeguard us from any false accusations she might tell you and you are quite happy to see them on request . This has been a thoroughly depressing time which should have been a relaxing holiday for my wife and I .

The property usually accepts one pet. We provide pet biscuits, a dog mat and rugs as part of our welcome, and regrettably we do not recall allowing two dogs although Sykes Cottages have advised us that this was on the booking notes. There has been no issue with hot water prior or since your booking and after you chose to leave, I checked the temperature of the hot water and it reached in excess of 55 degrees within 10 seconds. We are sorry if you had a wifi issue, it can sometimes be intermittent in the countryside although we have not had any issues raised before or after your booking. While you were out on one occasion, the smoke alarms were sounding and as the property is attached to my house, for safety purposes we needed to enter to check everything was ok and we informed you of this and we also informed Sykes. We did take pictures of dog items on the floor, dog beds, food, chews, rugs, evidence of a dog throws on the sofa and as some items were along some wall surfaces at the property and also on an 8ft long radiator we felt there may be a risk such as a trip or fire hazard. Tesco was about 10 min away by car the railway station was about 5 min walk away it was possable to drive to Bridgton in about 25 min I would like to return here again sometime and would 100% recommend it for a romantic stay

  • "The cottage was very clean and comfortable, with a beautiful bedroom, with a gorgeous view to wake up to."

It was lovely to be located on a working farm and it was nice to see the chickens, ducks and cattle everyday. There was a delightful back garden with table and chairs and seating area - great for eating fish and chips from the local shop in Nafferton. Trish and Iain are both very friendly and are deservedly very proud of their organic and wildlife friendly farm. The welcome basket of goodies, including home-made fudge was just what was needed. I would recommend this cottage for a quiet break, especially if you like your wildlife.

  • "Lovely peaceful location with abundant wildlife."

Farmyard is a bit mucky so bring appropriate footwear. Walks from the door in very picturesque surroundings and good location with plenty of places to visit within 30 minutes drive. Sledmere is worth a visit and the farm shop at Hutton Cranswick is very nice. Very warm welcome from lovely hosts but felt the detailed tour of the property on arrival was a little unnecessary, particularly with COVID. We really enjoyed the eggs from the farm chickens provided with a few other useful provisions and home made fudge! Property was on the whole very clean but unfortunately felt the need to wash some of the kitchen stuff before using. Tesco will deliver but arrange to collect from the farm gate as the delivery vehicles may find turning round by the cottage awkward. Weather was not the best but the cottage was warm and cosy.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Heapfield Cottage. Prior to arrival we state that guests are to bring wellies as the property is on a working farm. The torrential weather did not help the conditions either. We noticed that you enjoyed a walk to the nearby field which was great to see. As owners we want to ensure guests feel welcome and when they arrive we show them around the property. This is also done to ensure guests know where everything is. This was carried out in line with COVID guidelines (rule of 6) and our masks were worn. As you can see from previous feedback the cleanliness of the property is fantastic and your comment had taken us by surprise. We hope to welcome you back to the property soon. Thank you. Offering a discount that only lasts a short time seems like pressure to book. If someone earns a discount it should be valid a lot longer otherwise it’s a waste of time and I cannot see us using Sykes again.

Iain, Trish and James were very welcoming. The welcome basket was a lovely idea especially after a car journey being able to have a cup of tea and biscuit and reading the local paper of the day you arrive. My husband enjoyed the ducks eggs for breakfast. It was also nice to open the door or front window and see the ducks and chicken wandering around. The cottage was quiet and peaceful only hearing the sounds of nature around you. There was 3 pubs in the village and the pub we went into were very welcoming and we had a lovely meal. We would definitely book again. Thank you Iain, Trish and James.

We were both pleasantly surprised and impressed with the decor and style of the cottage. The bed was super comfy and very warm which made our stay and sleep better and more cosy. It was a shame it was so muddy around the farm as taking a dog with us proved tedious but never the less we were prior warned to bring our wellies by the owner so this was not a surprise! A lovely addition was watching the ducks waddle into the garden and enjoy their daily bath in the pond

  • "Lovely cottage, Mrs Kilner made us very welcome when we arrived."

Lovely welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and some duck eggs. Plus four home cooked buns! It was very much a working farm with cows and ducks and chickens wandering around the garden. The garden was an extra bonus, with a table, four chairs and umbrella. Unfortunately the weather wasn't warm enough on several days to enable us to sit out. The only drawback was you had to drive through the cattle yard to get to the cottage, so were constantly driving through cow muck, plus the smell of the cows. Also, the cottage was quite isolated, with no where to walk . You could walk into Nafferton but there was nothing there!
