A delightful unspoilt village on the southern fringe of the North York Moors National Park. Old stone cottages and farms cluster round the village green and duck pond. A haven of peace in delightful countryside, miles of forest and moor offer wonderful walking and touring. Picturesque villages; abundant wildlife. The places of interest in the area are too numerous to detail, but here are a few: The medieval walled city of York; castles and markets at Pickering and Helmsley; magnificent abbeys at Rievaulx and Byland; many old country houses (including Castle Howard) are all within easy reach; the North Yorkshire Coast, with its spectacular cliffs and beaches (approx. 21 miles); the spa town of Scarborough, famous for its summer concerts and theatre; Whitby, with its ancient abbey and quaint fishing harbour and many other fishing villages.

A quality sympathetic conversion of old stone farm buildings, resulting in two individual holiday homes of great character and comfort. Exceptionally high standard of furnishing and equipment. One property has ramp access. Near to the farmhouse, they offer peace and tranquillity. Situated high on the moors in a quiet National Park village above Newtondale where the steam railway takes you up the valley and across the moors to the coast - one of the most spectacular railway journeys in Britain. Visitors are also welcome to explore the footpaths through wild flower pasture and beautiful woodlands. Livery is available, by arrangement, for those with horses.
Ecologically aware and the larger of the cottages, Dairy House offers spacious accommodation over two floors. The property features a unique stone fire place, along with 15 massive timbers, which may have come from oaks in Newtondale or from ships broken up at Whitby. In the 19th Century, the property housed a horse driven threshing machine and more recently it became a dairy. Light and airy, Dairy House still feels cosy in winter.

Large galleried sitting room with woodburning stove & oak beams. First floor: Large bedroom with 3 x single beds (convertible to 1 double & 1 single). Three piece bathroom. Large gallery landing.

The cottage was very comfortable and in a lovely, peaceful location. Walks right from the front door. Nearby Pickering is a very pretty village with ample bars and restaurants for the evenings. We would not hesitate to return.

Th Dairy House is a lovely barn conversion in a lovely setting, very peaceful. There was plenty of room in the property for all six of us and it's ideally located for accessing the Moors, coast and the North York Moors Steam Train.
