The picturesque village of Castleton nestles in the beautiful Esk Valley, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Surrounded by stunning scenery, this bustling village offers superb amenities including two pubs, both serving great food, a village shop and a Co op, which is open until 10pm daily, a post office, tea rooms and a small art gallery. There is a railway station serving the Esk Valley and Whitby, which also links with the steam line to the attractive market town of Pickering. The Camphill Village Trust community of Botton is nearby, with its craft workshops and shops selling home produced food, craft items and books. The historic city of York is just over an hour away, and the coastal towns and villages of Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Sandsend with its lovely beach, are within easy driving distance, and well worth a visit.

A lovely stone built period cottage, attached to the owners’ house, situated in a wonderfully peaceful rural location at the head of Danby Dale, 2.5 miles from the village of Castleton. With glorious views over the surrounding countryside from its elevated position, this charming 'upside down' cottage is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, and offers a warm and welcoming base from which to explore the local area, either by foot or by car. The property has a spacious first floor sitting room with spectacular views into the valley head, and a flame effect fire. There is a well equipped kitchen with separate dining area, and a lovely lawned garden, ideal for sitting out and relaxing. A haven for walkers and cyclists, the surrounding countryside offers countless footpaths, bridle ways and cycle trails, some of which can be accessed from the cottage door. This delightful property with its peaceful location, and its proximity to both coast and countryside, provides an ideal base for an enjoyable and relaxing break.
