  • "Very well equipped cottage and very comfortable beds and bedding."

The property owner was very helpful and welcoming. It was good to have back garden and a space to park. It would have been nice to have wood supplied for the open fire, especially over Christmas period. The noise from the road could also be improved with secondary glazing in front room and front bedrooms. Other than that very comfortable.

  • "There was no starter pack for the fire and we had to ask for some, very happy to supply but they didn't arrive until next day and with no instructions in the cottage for the central heating it got a bit nippy."

The traffic noise was an issue for us, it is constant even through the night. Secondary double glazing might help. Cottage itself was lovely and clean and the back garden nice and secure for dogs. Will certainly visit again.

  • "Lovely well equipped cottage in a great location for exploring the area."

The cottage had everything you need and the enclosed garden with parking space was a bonus as we had our dog with us. A nice touch to have the little welcome pack and the owner is easily contactable if required.

  • "We had a 3 generation stay for the week, grandparents, children and grandchildren."

What a beautiful home which is very well equipped and homely. The welcome pack was a great bonus and much appreciated. Beds were very comfortable and the additional shower really useful for grubby kids playing in the garden. The location is fantastic for exploring this area of the country either by car or by local bus ( although these take longer then you think at high season). Hosts were very helpful and we will definitely return. Highly recommend!!!

Comfortable bed and spacious garden. Appreciated the welcome package biscuits, crumpets and x buns. Only downside was the traffic noise but if you are used to this it wouldn’t be a problem. Enjoyed the stay

  • "We enjoyed our short stay at The Old Cartway."

Excellent location. Beds very comfy, also pillows! The only down side was the traffic noise, and the boiler continued to fire up/pump throughout the night, even though the heating wasn't on, or the water being used? The welcome pack of biscuits, crumpets, milk and hot cross buns were very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Excellent welcome pack, much appreciated. Adequate off road parking for a large SUV (Q7). As others have said, on main road. No double glazing so a little noisy in the master bedroom and lounge, however it is not that busy.

  • "It is clear that the owners have invested a great deal of time and thought into this property."

However the significant amount of traffic noise diminishes the enjoyment of this property. I would recommend a more substantial, sound proof, front door and triple glazing be installed.

It was our fault because we didn't look at the pictures well enough so thought there were two double bedrooms. Otherwise it was clean comfortable and the kitchen was was very well equipped. We made the owners aware of our late arrival and were so impressed that the lights had been turned on. This certainly made it easier with two tired children. We were also pleased with the milk and supplies that had been kindly left, it was very appreciated. The cottage is conveniently situated with only a 10 min walk into the centre of Pickering at the most. There is also off street parking and a great garden. It is certainly a tardis and very deceptive with more than enough space for a family of 4. It is very well equipped and comfortable and in February warm and cosy. We are certainly hoping to be back and would most definitely stay there again.

The only downside for us was the traffic noise from the main road and being unable to have the windows open because of this. This is to be expected with the location of the cottage, however if upvc windows and doors were fitted this would help to alleviate the noise when they are closed. Very well equipped.

The cottage's interior is beautiful throughout. A lot of care and attention has been taken with the décor, which proved to be a real mood booster. It was a lovely place just to hang out and relax. We visited in late April after the first easing of lockdown restrictions, so it was a very outdoor-focused holiday and it was nice having such a cosy cottage to return to. We were sad to leave and could have easily stayed here an extra week. Hope to return again in the future.

Zak and Ruth met us when we arrived and were very welcoming and friendly and the welcome pack of home-made scones, butter, jam and cream plus biscuits, tea and milk was second to none. The only drawback is that the cottage is on a busy trunk road with heavy traffic thundering past the door all day and much of the night. Investment in double glazing on the front would make a difference as would the fitting of a less flimsy front door. Pickering and the surrounding area are beautiful.
