  • "Lovely cottage, well situated for our trip on the santa express, and all shops and restaurants."

Nice run into Whitby even in December. Slight problem to get into our parking slot but soon sorted, on the whole a lovely short pre Christmas break children enjoyed it.

  • "Access to the property could be an issue to some due to steepness of road and the access steps."

This did not spoil our stay despite my husbands limited mobility.

  • "Cottage was in a great location."

Children really enjoyed the top bedroom. Car parking was advertised for one car. On arrival we were confronted by an unhappy neighbour. The space is located on steep lane if we had been disabled this might have been a struggle. We rarely used the space because there were work vehicles blocking access throughout the week. Garden was inaccurately advertised. The view on the site is the back garden and it was a communal area rather than for sole use. The neighbour was lovely and friendly, but if seeking complete privacy, this is not made clear.

  • "Cottage was delightful."

Oldly worldly with beams etc. It was very comfortable with good quality furniture and fittings. We were most impressed. Owner seems to have thought of everything we might need plus it was a very short walk into the heart of Pickering. No need to take the car.

  • "Brilliant location for the town centre and the North York’s Moors Railway."

Pleasant courtyard to sit in with a friendly neighbour . the sidings is a heritage building that was comfortable and reasonably well appointed, but one or two things need attention. The taps cannot be fully turned off and the fridge was very noisy. Enjoyed our stay though.

  • "We had a very pleasant, comfortable week at The Sidings in July."

Note that there is no washing machine or dishwasher, even though it sleeps up to 6. That didn't bother just the two of us at all. There was a slight problem understanding the parking situation - please be aware that the 'road' in front of the cottage is a footpath which narrows at the top and it is perfectly okay to park on it providing you don't try to park on the stepped footpath running alongside. There are instructions and photographs in the Visitors pack in the cottage. Our car was really safe there and it is far away from the main road. It is a property which is full of character and which is surprisingly spaceous. Very clean and comfortable and in a great location for exploring all around this part of Yorkshire. The nearby North Yorkshire Railway didn't bother us with noise at all - but it is an expensive return ride to Whitby at £45 each and a long journey with stops and starts (but maybe we were unlucky.) A lovely holiday.

Slightly difficult with mobility scooter due to steps to enter but we managed. Very cosy.

Nice bedrooms and bathroom. Can stand looking out the door at the steam engines. Doesn’t get much better than that.

What a beautifully located quiet little cottage, with parking right outside, comfy beds and sofa, perfect location for shops, pubs/cafes, and of course right next to the station, we could see the beautiful steam engines from our cottage, will definitely return to The Sidings

  • "Location was excellent as we wanted to be by the steam railway for the gala, however a number of times our car got blocked in and we had to ask people from neighbouring properties to let us out when we wanted to go elsewhere."

(Not the fault of the property owner) The cottage is Quirky and has character but we missed little finishing touches like soap in the bathroom, a basics welcome pack, hairdryer and I never found the stairgate. Although I knew there was no WiFi or washing machine, I did miss the washing machine particularly as it was a wet week and we did get wet/muddy a number of times. Please bear this in mind when booking.

  • "The cottage is perfectly situated for the railway (literally over the road so you see and hear them all day)."

Quiet location with sun trap seating area to rear. Parking space handy with on street parking for additional cars nearby. Nicely furnished with everything we needed for the week, owners couldn't be me more helpful, and Pickering itself is a couple minutes walk away. Great stay and we'll be back again.

  • "The holiday was fine."

. the booking with Sykes was frustrating.. 2 minutes after booking we realised it didn't have a washing machine . We rang Sykes to try quickly cancel and find somewhere else but the woman on the phone was rude and abrupt ..she wouldn't let us without charging a fee even though we'd only booked two minutes prior.. she was aggressive and unhelpful and inflamed a situation that I'm sure could have easily been talked about on a civilised way..If she spoke to my customers like that I'd sack her immediately irrespective of company booking policies..
