The beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale lies just two miles to the east of Pickering within The North York Moors National Park. Much of its charm comes from its complicated shape - a fascinating jumble of streams and paths and pretty houses with an attractive village green which still has its wooden stocks and a market cross. The village offers a selection of shops, pubs and tearooms. The nearby market town of Pickering offers a good range of amenities and the famous North York Moors Steam Railway. There are broad fields above and below the village and views to the south across the Vale of Pickering, whilst to the north is the Forestry Commission's Dalby Forest, with several excellent nature trails to be enjoyed. Further afield, but within driving distance, are the East Coast and The City of York.

Previous visitors' comments about The Stone House:
Central location for the Moors, Dales and the coast. Very comfortable property and decorated to a very high standard - everything about it was luxurious.

There was no one to bother us, we just got on with our holiday. Wonderful area. We had lots room. A very well cared for cottage and looked after. A wonderful place to have a break. Every thing you need has been thought of. We will go back at some point. We all enjoyed it very much. So please thank the owner for us.
Ms Lee, Hull, December 2011
The village was lovely and the cottage was in a great location. Good amenities and great pubs in the village. The villagers had make a special effort with Christmas decorations which we all loved especially the kids. We would definitely stay there again!
Mrs Morris, Nuneaton, December 2011
The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was far more spacious that we imagined it to be and it was warm and comfortable. The village was lovely and the people were so friendly. The pubs in the village provided really good food at affordable prices and the meal that we had at the Brandysnap Bistro was excellent.
