The photos don't do the property justice as it is so much more updated than the photos show. We had the full use of the owners garden which our dog enjoyed and the owner was very friendly and provided us with tea, coffee and milk when we arrived. We couldn't fault anything as it had everything we needed and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

It was home from home. The description in the advert needs updating. We read there was a DVD player but there wasn't . We had brought some DVD'S but couldn't watch them. Great base for exploring museums, castles etc. The gentleman who works on the property was very helpful and approachable. We had nice chats with him. He is a great asset, lovely guy.

Nothing was too much trouble. The property was cosy and well equipped and sugar loved the garden space. We were that comfortable that we were happy not to venture out to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding countryside. We would not hesitate to return should the opportunity present itself. Tonia the property owner was very welcoming to my wife and I and our aged terrier. This was from initial phone contact through to meeting and sharing local knowledge. This was particularly helpful as we are considering buying property in North Yorkshire. She added helpful little touches of a welcome pack of tea/milk/coffee plus things for the dog. The cottage was small but perfectly laid out and equipped to a high standard.

Tastefully decorated and comfortable. Slept really well and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Really appreciated that our dog was able to roam around the whole garden when the gates were closed and meet the owner's dogs. The gas log burner was really effective and quickly warmed up the whole place. Well equipped with crockery, cutlery but needed a new tin opener which we pointed out to the owner. We enjoyed some long walks with our dog along the country lanes.

Our two dogs loved having run of big garden, Tonia's dogs, Hettie & Bundle were forgiving when Bella stole their toys & Hari kept barking at them!. Two downsides, absolutely no internet access which I could have done with for local / general information, & poor mobile phone reception. Also cost of car parking in Helmsley which I know isn't Tonia's doing, charges apply even with a blue badge, that's down to Rydale council, but yes we would stay at Peg's cottage again , wish we could've brought it home with us!.

About the location

HELMSLEY

Kirkbymoorside 6 miles; Thirsk 14 miles; Pickering 13 miles; York 26 miles.

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically - Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by. Helmsley also boasts an arts centre showing films and plays, and an outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the summer. There is excellent walking on the doorstep - indeed the Cleveland Way starts in Helmsley - and the surrounding North York Moors with their hidden dales and villages are pretty in all seasons. York is less than an hour's drive south, as is Scarborough, Whitby and the east coast, whilst Pickering and the beginning of the famous steam railway line (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) are a little over 20 minutes' drive.
