  • "The cottage was suitable to our requirements."

The position of the cottage was perfect for Saltburn and surrounding areas. We had prebooked The Ship, Tomahawk Steak House and Seaview Restaurant which were all within walking distance and fabulous. If there were any negative points they were as follows. Road leading to the cottage was horrendous, big pot holes and a mound of gravel and earth which was worrying when driving in the dark as Road not lit very well and only room for one car at a time. This could be out in the information details. Thankfully we didn't meet another car on the track. The fench was being replaced but there was a big section unfinished which wasnt really dog friendly. The sofas in the cottage were not the best for comfort especially when it is four adults spending the evening in. The cottage itself was warm and cosy although slightly dated. The TV in the main bedroom could be positioned better, we thought, possibly hung on the wall near the door. I do apologise I removed a picture from the bedroom wall, which I found a bit spooky and placed it under the bed.

Very difficult to see the green light because of switch being near a wall. Outside space at door needs some sort of solid surfacing to cover mud The cottage itself was very comfortable

  • "A nice cottage in a beautiful position on the cliff tops overlooking Saltburn, plenty of walks on the doorstep."

The next door neighbours were very friendly a comfort when during strong winds a few tiles came down. The information folder didn't appear to give guidance on what was and wasn't acceptable for recycling and if this could go in the green bags provided(our area allows all recyclable materials but does not allow plastic bags). In the end we took it out of the bin and bagged it. Fingers crossed this was ok. As the garden is not close to the cottage we were not sure if we could use the bench next to the shed to sit in the sunshine. Other than that we would like to visit again.

We were unbelievably lucky with the weather so spent a lot of time down at the beach and also in the beautiful garden. The cottage was spotless and has everything that you need, the only slight down point was that the armchair in the living room had been replaced by an uncomfortable sofa bed but we just took turns at who got the comfy sofa to lounge about on

The cottage is comfortable and has all that we need, is in peaceful countryside surroundings and only a short walk down one of the cliff paths to the sea front. Saltburn itself is a delightful town with all the shops we need. We had a really great stay at the cottage and look forward to returning again.

In general an ok cottage that we had a great holiday in. We enjoyed our stay but I suspect if you are very particular you might find it a bit lacking. We stayed with 2 adults and 2 children and it’s tight. Very little storage for clothes and the dining area in the kitchen is cramped. No dishwasher and make sure you remember to manually turn on the hot water. But for us it was worth it for the location.

  • "Quite disappointed with the cottage, not thoroughly clean and "bottomed" to a high standard."

Uncomfortable sofa, cottage on the whole too cluttered, fridge only worked if turned up high, then food and drinks at the back of the fridge became frozen. Did message owner as wasn't working initially and no light in fridge either. Did advise to check switch in fridge and under sink and said he would try and get someone out to fix light. I said no problem re the light as long as the fridge worked. But unfortunately the food at the back was ruined. The weather wasn't kind to us and on an evening the cottage was chilly, some of the storage heaters worked, some didn't and were temperamental and not effective and warming the room anyway. Mattress and pillows need renewing, was left one tea towel and one set of towels for the week need renewing during the week(I take my own just incase). Lastly the rubbish and guidance regarding recycling the information from the owner stated "the bin men don't seem to differentiate the rubbish from recycling, hopes this helps". This is wholly unacceptable, there were 2 bins one green one blue, surely one is for general waste and one for recycling????? If the owner is unsure seek advice from the council for clarity. It is unbelievable that in 2023 there is no facility to recycle, not appropriate at all. Wouldn't stay here again, considered leaving early, and wouldn't recommend.

Our maintance man checked immediatly and firsty the fridge control was on high and only needed turning down , all the radiators were working perfectly Property Owner

  • "We had the most wonderful week at Cliff Top Cottage and were very lucky with the glorious weather."

Cosy and comfortable with views to die for - countryside one way and sea views (from outside or the upstairs bedroom) the other. We walked down the cliff path most days and wandered on the seafront or went up into the town. The path takes around 10 minutes and the steep steps took a bit of getting used to but it soon became easier. There's also a slightly longer path without steps which goes to the rear of the cottage. Saltburn seems quieter than some seaside towns and not quite as touristy which we really appreciated and the beach is lovely. The cottage itself is perfectly formed and in a row with only a few others. It was very tranquil and it was lovely to throw open the French doors and let the air in. The garden for the cottage is along the lane and the one outside the French doors is for two cottages down. The garden for the cottage is lovely and actually quite private. It did feel a bit strange on the one occasion when people were out in the garden that is directly in front of the cottage but that's just part of the quirky feel of it and we didn't see many people from the cottages at all. I'd really love to know more about the history of the coastguard cottages and why the gardens were laid out as they are. It was a cause of constant speculation throughout the week! We really liked the paintings in the cottage too, especially the ones of the coastguard cottages. All in all, it was a lovely break at Cliff Top Cottage and it was everything we hoped for. It had all that we needed for a week away and I'm already imagining a return visit.

Booked last minute and in a rush I can’t believe how lucky I got. Set apart from the hubbub of the main Saltburn town yet only a 5 minute walk down the Cleveland Way footpath straight onto the beautiful beach and into town if provisions are needed. A short drive into the moors to go hiking or visit the many tourist attractions nearby. Recommend taking the pirate boat from Whitby to see the dolphins, totally enchanting and Robin Hood’s bay and ghost walk. The cottage provided all the necessary facilities needed for our stay, comfortable beds and peacefully quiet. The garden is separate from the cottage but we never felt the need to use it with the breathtaking cottage surroundings and the beach so close. Although there was building work happening next door, their visits were brief and in sociable hours. In fact we never saw another person at the cottages the whole week. Would definitely recommend this cottage and would book again.

5 mins down to the beach, 10 to 15 up into town. The cottage itself had most things required for a week's stay although it needs a little bit of TLC here and there. It was also clean enough but you could see areas that hadn't been touched in a while. The bed was the most comfy we have ever had in a cottage, firm but supportive. Please be aware that there is scaffolding up next door and some days building work is going on, in our case including a 7am start of knocking and banging. You need to be an early riser ! Overall, we loved the area and would stay at the cottage again.

Dog friendly but the garden was not adjacent to the cottage but down the track. The garden was very overgrown and not useable as a garden and should mot be advertised as so. The cottage was quaint but dated. Not clean and the baking items should not be used. Had to clean and cover with foil for use. Parking by side of cottage was available but neighbour also parked (whilst they tended to thierr garden, but not with care. Building work being carried out in next door cottage as not lived in so there were builders there and vans parked outside on three days. Luckily they worked from 09.30 till 16.00 ish but still drilling and banging from a full rip out. No details in cottage for local refuse information so did not know when bins were emptied. Friday the truck came down track but did mot empty but just left a bag which was not there on arrival.
