"My partner and I stayed here over Easter 2015 and loved every minute. It was a lovely relaxing break that fully catered for us and our dog. The owners were laid back but helpful. They were not invasive whatsoever and left us to enjoy our stay, but always knowing they were there if we needed them. We absolutely adored the décor of the place, a very quaint characteristic little cottage theme. The bedroom in particular had a very cottagey feel. We particularly loved the the log burner, and so did the dog! The grounds are very well kept and are very welcoming. It is quite rural, so a car is definitely needed, but the cottage is in a perfect location for exploring York. We also did a day trip to Whitby which was perfect in the April sun. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and we have already recommended to our friends and family. Thank you.

About the location

York 8.5 miles.

Stamford Bridge, as its name suggests, was a fording point over the River Derwent for a Roman settlement. Nowadays, it is a village with a selection of shops and restaurants and is notable for a renovated railway viaduct, which is now used as a cycle and public footpath. The village is well known as the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25th September 1066, which marked the end of the Viking era in Britain. Within easy reach are the pretty Yorkshire market towns of Malton, Beverley and Driffield and within an hour’s drive is the unspoilt coastal resort of Filey with open beaches and the nearby RSPB nature reserve at Bempton.
