  • "Perfect for a last minute booking."

Fantastic location and comfortable accommodation. And we always got a parking space nearby. We all slept well in the beds and the linen and towels provided were white and clean. It would have been nice to have a full length mirror and a hairdryer, and the outside area could do with a bit of love but overall we had a lovely stay.

We are very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at St Mary's Cottage. Thank you for your comments and recommendations. We will purchase a full length standing mirror and a small hairdryer for the main bedroom for guests to use. We do hope you will visit again soon, Kind Regards Property Owner

  • "We didn't particularly enjoy our stay unfortunately."

The place wasn't as clean as we're used to. Unfortunately, there was also a strong mould smell when you accessed the fridge under the stairs. The kitchen was impractical, and there was nowhere to put food, you couldn't open the backdoor when the flip table was up, and you couldn't open the oven if the washing machine was on. It was a frustrating arrangement and felt at times like we were camping. There was very little storage and to make matters worse, numerous cupboards were padlocked.

Great location for access to both the North and South Bays and town. Small and cosy with the log burner, very clean with comfortable beds.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in our cottage. We aim to maintain the original character as much as possible. We hope you will return again soon. Thank you for your kind words. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderfully stay in November with our 2 month old son and our dog Boycey!"

It was a cosy first family holiday for us and we would happily go back with our little family! That cottage makes a cosy winter getaway for the family and is perfect for dogs! There wasn’t a bath but that wasn’t a problem as we just took our baby bath with us and filled it up with a jug! The cottage felt lived in which is exactly what you want when you’re taking a dog away with you because you don’t want to be worrying about your dog living alongside you in the cottage! The location was perfect and we would highly recommend an ‘out of season’ trip as you can do so much and there are no waiting around or over crowding!

  • "The cottage is ideally located 5min walk from the beach."

It is a small property and thats part of its character, but be aware the tinyness of the kitchen makes meal prep difficult. The bedrooms and bathroom were great. However downstairs there was a definite smell, not if it was damp or previous pets. We bought several air blocks, but couldn't get rid of it.

  • "Perfect week."

Everything was as anticipated and listed. Kitchen is tight but you can soon work around that and we managed to cook a full breakfast and dinner each day with all utensils provided. Host are very helpful when called, and the only times we needed to do so the information was already on hand to sort in the welcome pack (it had just been left somewhere we didn't see it). We are a family of 4 - 2 Grown up Adult Kids - and 18 yr old and a 6 yr :) old. Was lovely to be able to just leave the car and walk to both bays. Though it is street parking do not be put off? On our experience you don't have far to look to find a space. Outside there is an are where you can pull in and unload/ load up even if you have to park on the next street. Our tip? On windy days when the wind is from the Sea, stick to the South Bay Beach- if you have a dog like ourselves then head toward the spa. Other days we prefer the North bay beach but food options there are limited. Less crowded though. Its all about the tide too.... we were lucky with high tides from about 4pm onward through the week. Best Fish n Chips? North Bay Fisheries. Near Peasholm park check google but be prepared to queue. Its worth it. 2nd is the Lifeboat which is 2 minutes walk. We will be back if time allows. A beautiful cottage.

Thank you for your positive feedback, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at St Mary's Cottage and hope you will return again soon! Property Owner

  • "We had such a lovely stay at St Mary’s cottage."

The cottage is in a great location just a stones throw away from the sea front and all the gems Scarborough has to offer. Some reviews said it needs a little TLC and wasn’t very clean, I’d agree with this, but in the same breathe it didn’t bother us, it’s a coastal, dog friendly cottage, who wants pristine? It was immaculate in the places it needed to be immaculate i.e bathroom and beds etc. I will forever have the fondest memories of St Mary’s cottage as the first place we stayed as a new family, baby Zahra loved it too, although small, plenty of place to crawl, and the back yard makes the perfect location for a baby picnic on a nice day. Hopefully one day we will be back.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at St Mary's Cottage. We do feel that the location, being so close to the sea front and Castle, is a great advantage for our guests, especially with small children. We are sorry to hear that you felt that the cottage wasn't cleaned to a high standard, but pleased that it didn't effect your stay. We think the dust may have come from the windows as they were the original with wooden frames and had draftee gaps developed with age. We are pleased to say that at the end of April we had new PVC double glazed windows and doors fitted to the cottage, which have made a huge difference both to the warmth and cleanliness of the property. It is lovely to hear that your stay was your first family holiday with your new baby and that you will forever have fond memories of your stay! Thank you so much. We hope you will return to St Mary's again in the future. Thank you Property Owner

An excellent base to enjoy Scarborough and the surrounding areas of Filey, Whitby & Bridlington etc. Nice quiet street, Parking is a bit awkward as the streets are small and there are limited spaces. but none the less you can park just sometimes you may need to walk to your car a street or two away. Great accommodation, great places to visit, great holiday all round. Would recommend St Mary's cottage.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at St Mary's Cottage."

The property had everything we needed and we got a change of bedding and towels midway through the stay which was very welcome. The bathroom has recently been improved with a walk-in power shower, having a large rain-style shower head as well as a standard movable one. Bedrooms were comfortable and clean. Although there is a pub at the end of the street, there was never any noise or disturbance from this, so the location was excellent, being close to the beach, shopping area, church and castle. I would certainly recommend this property to a small family and would gladly stay again. Our overall experience with Sykes was average. Initially it was poor, like many experiencing difficulties in changing a booking due to Covid restrictions. However it appears as if the service you receive depends very much on who you get through to in customer services. Eventually there was someone who was happy to make the necessary changes and I think Sykes have improved since receiving so much bad feedback, being more accommodating with booking changes. Hopefully this will continue.

We were very impressed with the quality of the interiors and the location is convenient for beach walks and the town centre while being off the main traffic routes. The kitchen, although small, has very good appliances and equipment in excellent condition (like new) and the extra spaces created by the pop up table and hob covers made it easy to prepare more adventurous meals. We loved it here and look forward to visiting again next year. Stephen & Becky - Northumberland.
