  • "We had a lovely week at Brook Cottage."

From the moment we walked in it felt homely and welcoming. The cottage is clean, very comfortable and very well equipped, especially the kitchen. I cooked a full meal for visiting siblings with no problems -even using the slow cooker provided. The showers were brilliant and the towels a really good size. The beds were extremely comfortable with crisp white linen -just what we like. We know the area quite well but Marcus and Lindsay were ready to provide information should we have needed it. They have left an extensive amount of literature and maps etc about the surrounding area as there is so much to see and do around there. We can wholeheartedly recommend Brook Cottage and hope to return in the near future.

The cottage itself was lovely (and bigger than it looks in the pictures!), and Marcus was ever so helpful suggesting places to visit or eat, or road's to avoid getting stuck on! The location is peaceful and the scenery - driving to Whitby, or Eden camp, or to Castle Howard, or just to the pub to eat - was beautiful. Thank you!

  • "Location, Location, Location!"

Howardian Hills & Brook Cottage are a pure delight. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable self catering holiday (including a full size fridge freezer, which is a rare thing). The views and peace and quiet made for a very relaxing week. There are numerous immaculately presented villages to visit and it is a walkers paradise. The main reason for our visit was to visit the York Air Museum which was outstanding. A drive to the coast over the North Yorkshire Moors is a must. Big thanks to Lindsay & Marcus who were superb hosts with an outstanding wealth of knowledge and of course Inca (the most well behaved black Labrador we have met). There is so much more we would like to see and visit so we will be back one day, and of course the only place to stay will be Brook Cottage.

We were warmly welcomed by Marcus and Lyndsay (the owners). Throughout our stay they regularly checked (without being intrusive) if we were ok or if there was anything we needed. They were friendly, hospitable and helpful. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything we could possibly need. It was cosy, warm and inviting. The rooms are of a good size and comfortably furnished. It was ideally situated to visit all the local places of interest - Eden Camp at Malton, the lovely town of Helmsley, Jorvik Centre in York, Nunnington Hall (National Trust) and the coast - we went to Whitby. We found some lovely places to eat - Trenchers in Whitby (fantastic fish and chips), The White Bear Inn in Stillington, The Rose and Crown in Sutton-on-the-forest, the Castlegate Tearooms in Helmsley and The Aldwark Arms in Aldwark, near Alne.
