Location: Bagby

Thirsk 3 miles; York 20 miles.

The charming village of Bagby is a small village just three miles from Thirsk, nestling between the Hambleton Hills to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west. Consisting of a few farm dwellings and traditional houses, peaceful Bagby boasts a variety of splendid walks, great cycle paths, good local fishing, fantastic bird watching opportunities and of course, a great local pub! Nearby Bagby Airfield offers microlight flights, and the visitor centre at Monk Park Farm is a great day out for the kids. Just three miles away, the town of Thirsk offers something for all tastes. The famous racecourse, which holds over a dozen events each year, and the cobbled streets and quaint little alleyways are awash with cosy teashops and lovely little delicatessens. Better known to many as James Herriot's town, Alf Wight, the "real" James Herriot and author of the James Herriot novels, lived and practised as a vet here for over 50 years, with Thirsk becoming his inspiration for the fictional town of Darrowby. With the historic cathedral cities of York and Ripon also close by, and the coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough within easy reach, this great area has something for everyone.

Previous visitors' comments about Wren Cottage:

The cottage was so lovely, a home-from-home.
Miss North, Grantham, September 2011

Excellent location and many places to visit within half an hours drive. Very friendly locals and an excellent village pub. The owners were very friendly and communicative. The property itself was immaculate, well appointed and maintained. A good selection of brochures for local events and attractions was provided in the cottage.
Mr Hoare, Sutton Coldfield, July 2011

This cottage was perfect for our week in Yorkshire. Coming from Australia we new nothing of the area and the information on the table in the cottage gave us more that enough scope to plan an enjoyable week traveling near and far and returning to a quiet comfy retreat each night.
Mr Payne, Wadalba, June 2011

The cottage was excellent, a credit to the owners. Without doubt one of the best cottages we have stayed in anywhere in the country. The area is beautiful and there is so much to do and see.
Mr Rogers, Kettering, October 2010
