Priory Cottages

Wetherby 4 miles. A group of magnificent properties, sympathetically converted from lovely old stone and brick barns and buildings, set around an idyllic landscaped courtyard tucked away amidst the historical site of Syningthwaite (or Sinningthwaite) Priory, four miles from Wetherby. These Yorkshire cottages, which are architecturally in keeping with the attached 12th century Cistercian Priory, are named after the Prioresses who ruled the priory until the dissolution of the monasteries. The building and estate was then bequeathed to Robert Tempest by King Henry VIII and today functions as a working farm. The owners live on the farm and provide a warm, friendly welcome. Each Yorkshire cottage has its own private patio area, and guests have access to a communal Cloisters Garden, where you can walk or sit and relax whilst you view the magnificent original 12th century priory, presently under restoration. Nearby Harrogate boasts a wide variety of quaint pubs, tempting restaurants and colourful antique shops, whilst the magnificent Turkish Baths, theatres, and “Bettys” Tea Room - overlooking Montpelier Gardens - are not to be missed. Visit the cities of Ripon and York, with their Cathedrals, museums, pubs, shops, tearooms and restaurants. Each cottage has its own floral 'emblem', and if required, these wonderful Yorkshire cottages can be booked together, ideal for those special celebrations.
