  • "An excellent cottage in a wonderful and accessable area of Whitby."

It has absolutely everything you need for your holiday, including a selection of jigsaws, dvds and books in case of that rainy day! The cottage is spotlessly clean and tidy, all due to Beryl the housekeeper who obviously takes great pride in her work. Highly recommended.

  • "Cottage is lovely but not for anyone with mobility issues as stairs are very steep."

It was clean but if providing towels they need to be of a better quality. Noise is a big issue late at night and very early in the morning. Ideal location for getting around and the abby steps are approx 100m away. Because of noise issue we wouldnt return.

, it felt like home there and we would definitely return. we were also lucky enough to see a real live Baby in a Pram, all other 10000+Prams were dogs lol. Great Pub's with various prices, so shop around. good reliable Taxi's from P&A Taxi's 01947 602602 great service. Anyone taking Fishing gear :- East Pier, at the end, down the ladders, 7th to 14th July (our stay) many Mackerel been caught, no bait needed, just Jigging with a good silver lure/spinner/Okkie. good luck. Many thanks to Beryl & John for keeping such a great place :) x

  • "We loved our stay."

The living area was bright and airy and the bedroom/dressing room was just lovely. The welcome tray and wine was a lovely bonus. The only reason we wouldn't stay again is the steep stairs. They proved too much for us - we are both in our 60s with dodgy joints. The description did warn about them in advance so we have no complaints about that. Would recommend to any couple looking for central accomodation

  • "The place was spotlessly clean and well equipped in the kitchen."

The welcome items were a great surprise. Unfortunately the heating never came on ,apart from the smallest radiator in the small room at the top(and I downloaded the heating manual too). The WiFi was rubbish, we ended up having to use our data all week, which included having to purchase extra data from our Network providers. The biggest problem was the noise. I have been staying on Haworth's Main Street for over 20 years,so I am very used to tourist noise/pub noise and do not mind it,but every day we were woke up early with the noise from bin lorries, skip lorries, workmen shouting. One morning a council vehicle came up to collect bin bags before 5am!! It was like sleeping in the Goods In yard at work!! Also every night there was a howling/crying dog too. In the end we had to go and purchase ear plugs ! There should be a note put on the website to explain about the early morning noise and that lay ins past 5-7am are impossible. I absolutely love Whitby, but this time,I was glad to get home and be able to wake up naturally without being woken up.

  • "No doubting the cleanliness of the cottage, the finishing touches were very welcome, the description of the property was spot on!"

! All the welcome goodies made for a perfect start to our break . There are pros and cons; Pros ; I think I have listed most above, the location is ideal. Purely on those I would book again!! However !! The cons!!! Parking, is not ideal, yes if I wanted the chore of parking at garden centre and making numbrous trips up and down the hill to retrieve my car then it would have been ok, I didn't!! The cost of parking in Whitby added extra cost to our break , whilst not a problem I really didn't want to pay it,so that on its own would make me think twice about re booking. The stairs are steep!! Felt a bit short changed as only one set described as steep!! Television was very small and tinney!! Could do with being in the bedroom, sofa and chairs not very comfortable. Any person booking the cottage should be aware of the locals morning activities!! Every morning at approximately 6.20 we were awoken by either, bar owners emptying bottles or delivery drivers making deliveries or to cap it all off the bin men collecting rubbish!!! We actually left a day and a half early to come back to Devon to get some sleep!!! That was something that we didn't want to do!!! We would happily book in Whitby again sadly not at this particular property

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location in the quaint old part of Whitby."

Everything was lovely and clean and very warm in the middle of the February storms (thank you Beryl) and had left us some very nice welcome gifts indeed. Everything we need for a comfortable stay was provided. As we expected from previous reviews the stairs were on the steep side but this wasnt a problem for us. Parking is a 5 minute walk away and can be paid for via the carpark app on rolling system if required. You can drive up to the property to drop off luggage but we just trundlled our cases up which wasnt a problem. A bit noisy in the mornings as the shops have their services deliveries but that didn't bother us and it was nice to be able to watch the life of the town unfold beneath us. Would definitely come again.

  • "The cottage was nice and clean it had everything you needed to make our stay comfortable, the problem for us were the steep and narrow steps also the noise from outside was going well into the night from the two pubs opposite."

The cottage is suitable probably for younger people who can manage the stairs easier and don’t mind the noise

  • "What a great stay in Caedmon's Rest."

Situated where everything is close by and to walk to, we couldn't have asked for better. The stairs to the bedroom would be difficult for some, especially elderly and infirm, although we managed them just fine, and in my mind, I viewed the steepness and slight lean as being a quirky characteristic of the building's age. Very clean overall, and maybe a wee lick of paint would freshen up this lovely place. The next comment may seem an unnecessary grumble, as we didn't intend to watch TV, but every evening we did - and being that it was a small hotel bedroom telly, we found our only gripe was about it needing to be upgraded (a bit bigger at least and less tinny sound). It's about the overall experience after all. To conclude; we left feeling like we'd had a good rest - which is all we wanted and needed - and we'll definitely recommend Caedmon's Rest to our family and friends - and return ourselves when we next visit Whitby Excellent!!

it was ideal for one or two people, had lots of thoughtful additions like chocolates, and books and jigsaws. Even a hot water bottle which was not needed as the place was so snug and warm. Plenty of kitchen equipment too.It was ideal for walking the Cleveland Way and getting into the west side of town and the bus /train station , whilst being located in the quaint older part of Whitby with it's shops, cafes and restaurants. I did find it a bit noisy echoing up from the street on Friday and Saturday night, but that was because I like to stay in quietly at night. if you are up to going out those nights, it would not affect you at all.
