The hosts could not be any more accommodating and friendly. The cottage was very clean and had all your home comforts. We spent our evenings watching the boats from the living room window, it was very relaxing. Perfect location as once we parked up we did not use our car again. I e managed to park the car outside the front of the property in the evening once the hustle and bustle had calmed down. We will definitely be returning again in the future. Thank you xx

The property was very clean and comfortable, with all essentials provided. Easy access to shops, restaurants, pubs, etc. Lovely outlook over the harbour. Had a small issue with a fault on the boiler, but this was dealt with as soon as possible and posed no real hardship. I was kept updated by the owners, which was very much appreciated. I was offered a move to a different property by the Sykes team, which was brilliant customer service, but I didn't feel that the issue warranted a move. Overall, very happy.

It was extremely cold on entering as the heating was on a very low heat level and I don’t think there had been any occupants the previous week to air it through!! We turned the heating on full and also tried to use the gas fire but it wouldn’t light at all. This made the upstairs unbearably hot but still very cold in the living areas and a draught seemed to be coming from somewhere. We contacted the owner about this but he said that due to it being the Christmas period he had been unable to find anyone to fix the problem with the fire. Perhaps it would be a good idea to provide some kind of portable heater especially at this time of year. Other than this we had a great time in Odd Sock Cottage and would gladly return but probably in the warmer months.

The property

Enjoying an idyllic position, overlooking the picturesque upper harbour in Whitby, is this delightful apartment, set in a converted period property.

Situated over three floors, there are superb views from every window, where you can sit and watch the activity of the fishing boats and sailing craft.

Although in the heart of this historic seaside town, the apartment is on the quieter side of the harbour, but a short stroll brings you into the hustle and bustle of this quaint and popular town.

Entry is through a small alleyway, where external steps lead up to the rear door and into a light and airy open plan living area.

This welcoming room has a modern kitchen, with a family dining table and comfortable seating, where you can sit and relax in the evening and see the twinkling lights in the harbour.

On the second floor is the twin bedroom and the bathroom, while the spacious double bedroom is on the third floor, retaining exposed timbers and sloping ceiling.

With the shops and amenities all at hand, you are ideally placed for exploring the quirky narrow streets, the cobbled market place and many independent shops.

Whitby has much to offer, with its 199 steps leading up to the Abbey, museums, including Captain Cook memorial museum, and the pretty gardens in Pannett Park.

Why not go on a fossil hunting trip or take an evening ghost walk?

The long, sandy beaches are a child's dream, with donkey rides, ice-creams and candy floss all at hand, while diners will be spoilt for choice with the abundance of good restaurants, fabulous tea rooms and wonderful fish and chips, with many of the local inns serving real ale.

Head out of town to discover the beautiful scenery of the surrounding North York Moors and explore the numerous pretty coastal and inland villages.

The surrounding area has plenty to offer, including the North York Moors Steam Railway at Grosmont, the Danby Moors Exhibition Centre and the pretty coastal villages of Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes to explore.

With the stunning scenery of the moors to discover, and with wonderful walking and cycling close by, Odd Sock Cottage provides a superb base, at any time of the year.
