Only problem parking a nightmare which it is anywhere in Whitby so cannot understand why the courtyard is blocked off, it would be such an asset to the property

Right in the centre so park up and leave the car. This is the second time of staying and will be back again. The chocolate and biscuits etc was a lovely touch. Had a great stay.

  • "The location is good and the actual space downstairs was great for our family of six."

Kitchen and oven good as we mostly ate in. Although it was clean we found the furnishings and decor a little tired. There wasn’t attention to detail for example checking the courtyard which had a dead gull and two young gulls in who had made quite a mess so we couldn’t use until cleaned on Monday at our request. A bit of time and thought needs to be spent on the cottage. It felt a bit unloved.

Generally comfortable, but felt less so due to proliferation of large notices everywhere! Cleanliness good in general, but again, a couple of small details. Crockery and cutlery provision inadequate. Despite the faults mentioned, a good place to stay, in a very suitable location.

The cottage was clean, well equipped and had a nice homely feeling. Loved the location. The courtyard area was nice too especially as we had our dog. They had thought of everything including hand gel and cleaning products. Welcome gift a nice touch.

  • "Advertised as having WiFi but this didn’t work all week, not great!"

Cleanliness could have been better, especially in the times we’re living in. Had to clean the kitchen work surfaces, underneath the bathroom sinks had soap marks running down them & there were cobwebs in almost every room. Having said all that, the position & inside the house was great & having the use of the parking permit & scratchcards, we will definitely be back!

With Covid guidelines I was shocked that we had to do our own cleaning as we could not trust that the rest of the house had been cleaned to a good standard. This was not a good start to what turned out to be a great holiday.

For example the previous occupants said the shower over the bath didn't work, my husband fixed this and that was ok, the freezer door didn't shut properly, and so on these are minor niggles and not a complaint.

  • "The photos made this apartment look bigger than the reality."

The double bedroom on the first floor was very small and the bed took up so much room it was hard to walk around it, also there was a tiny wardrobe not big enough for 2. The rest of the apartment was good, and the kitchen was very well equipped. There is quite a spacious courtyard so a Brabantia folding line or rotary line would be a great help as drying towels and clothes is a must. Parking is a bit of a pain. We had to carry all of our luggage quite a long way from the car park to unload and load it. The owner of the property was a very nice and helpful lady .

  • "Oystercatcher Cottage is a lovely cottage in Whitby situated in the centre of the town."

It has a nice sitting and dining room area which is conveniently located next to the small but very adequate kitchenette area. There is also a downstairs toilet again very useful! Upstairs the master bedroom is very comfortable with an en suite shower and toilet which is very handy. The master bedroom also offers good views of the abbey. The enclosed garden is very nice for bringing your dog. Unfortunately it was too cold for us to sit out in but would be nice in the summer months. The only downside was that the patio door was not very secure and I would recommend that the owners have new french doors installed, as I think security could be compromised and the locks were very hard to manage. But overall a lovely property that I would have no hesitation in returning to. The cottage is set back from the main roads in a little court yard area and is very peaceful and quiet given the fact that you are so close to the town. The parking scratch cards are very good and parking is usually no problem but I would warn that the Parking Wardens are very keen as we overstayed the ticket by 10 minutes and when rushing back to our car as we had forgot to change the cards over we sadly found we had been slapped with a £25 parking fine charge!! We also noticed that other vehicles parked there were also being fined, sometimes just for silly things like not putting the year on (despite them having put the Month and Day of the Month on them!) So ........you have been warned, provided you are very good and stick to changing them regularly (and putting your full details in) you should not have a problem. But overall a lovely holiday cottage.

  • "Very disappointed with the holiday cottage with the amount that we paid expected a lot more."

Walking into the court yard there were bins outside over flowing with rubbish that we had to walk past everyday it smelt bad with flies around it they were there for the whole week we were there. The floor in the lounge had stains on the floor, it look like it haven't been cleaned properly with hair and pubic hair still on the floor and toilet seats. The washing machine had been broken with the white towels inside the machine and the airer was broken. We reported on Saturday and got sorted quickly on the Monday which we were happy about with having two young children you need both. The outside was very disappointing there were weeds and rusting furniture and the paint was peeling off the wall and on the floor not a place to relax in, it didn't look like the photographs show on the website. With the amount we paid we were disappointed in the cottage and won't be staying at that cottage again unless improvement we're made. I hope the feedback helps.
