  • "Lovely cottage - second time we've stayed there."

Just one small problem that you might want to fix for the next tenants - the toilet seat is very loose which is rather dangerous. (You might not have been made aware of it though). Other than that, everything was exactly what we wanted and we're looking forward to our next visit.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are glad that you enjoyed your second visit with us! We will look at the toilet to ensure all is okay, thank you for letting us know. We look forward to having you back. Kind regards Property Owner

  • "Very unhappy and dissatisfied with the stay, the lack of response from the owner and the 'nothing much we can do' vibe from Sykes."

.leaving me with no resolution and having to consider other avenues. A large number of asthmatic people (me included) are sensitive to bad smells and chemicals. So I didn't expect a damp musty smelling bedroom and a portable air freshener in the bedroom. I did locate the black damp and have pictures and videos of it. Quite shocking too we couldn't open the windows or door to air the room. The cleaner did (just about and after a long struggle) the next day but the issue urgently needs sorting. It also felt a bit of a fire trap. The following day a cleaner came out, suggested the carpet did need cleaning, acknowledged the smell but I felt underplayed the seriousness and discomfort. She also commented that you wait forever for an electrician in Whitby but yet arranged for one that very day who did t just replace the light bulbs but the entire light fittings in the kitchen. First impressions were also spoilt by the kitchen having no working lights and cobwebs and dust in many places. There was a note from a previous guest saying they had informed the owner of the non working lights. However this is minor in comparison with the bedroom smells which made me cough and affected my asthma for the entirety of the stay. The owner and Sykes were made aware of this from a very early stage. Up until now no compensation has been forthcoming. I think most owners would be horrified this happened and would want to make amends asap. Not this one sadly The cottage itself is in a great location and is just a few minutes walk from the train station and close to all the main attractions. The living room area is quite nice with an attractive large cosy fire. The sofas are showing their age a bit but not too bad and the carpets all need replacing. The bathroom was fine and there's ample storage for clothes. The bed itself is cosy but the pillows are too soft. Being a basement flat the room was very dark even in the daytime. There was nothing finishing touches like milk in the fridge or a few tea bags etc. It just felt a little bit cold (on more than one level). Wouldn't recommend.

  • "Very spacious flat in excellent location and near to everything."

Parking is a massive issue especially when you have to carry luggage up and down lots of steps. We felt the property was in need of a little tlc. It was drab and musty and we were glad that we didn't have to cook in the kitchen as we went out. The bathroom had no window. It felt unloved at the end of the season.

  • "We had a wonderful holiday staying at The Bolthole."

It's beautiful and so comfortable. Perfectly situated in Whitby. So close to the railway and bus stations and the town and harbour. Parking can be an issue, but it's Whitby and everyone is looking for a space. If we couldn't find a space on the road behind the house, we parked up by the park, which is lovely to walk through. Thank you for the bottle of wine and sorting out the parking vouchers for us. If I was to make just one suggestion, a small bottle of milk in the fridge would be welcome to make that much needed first cup of tea, with the teabags that were there in the kitchen, after a long journey. Will definitely be staying at the Bolthole again.

  • "A spacious, neat, clean, tidy and comfortable apartment."

Such a handy location with the train station, bus station and supermarket just a 2 minute walk away - really convenient if you don't drive. But nice and quiet and cosy in the evenings. No complaints. The pans are probably due a refresh and a casserole dish would be handy. As would salt and pepper in the kitchen.

  • "A perfect location, spacious and comfortable."

Minutes into town and the excellent choices for food and drinks. However, there are a few things that could be better. After the long journey, it would be nice to have some milk in the fridge to make tea or coffee, rather than the bottle of wine left on the side. Also, no salt, pepper, coffee, etc. which is a surprise as that's just some basic stuff you'd expect to find in a kitchen. The owner very kindly arranged for a new all seasons quilt to replace what was both a very warm and very worn quilt that was originally on the bed. It definitely needed replacing! The blinds in the bedroom are very fiddly to work (the one on the bedroom door would not go up at all) so we couldn't risk putting them up once they'd been set up for nighttime on our first night. Time to replace these too we feel. There was a general lack of natural light overall but that's understandable given its position at the bottom of the building. No sprays available to clean the kitchen surfaces with and this would be helpful each day after any cooking. We had a great week in the area. The above suggestions are made to help and based on what we've experienced in other Sykes locations.

Well-equipped and absolutely perfect for 2 people. We loved it. Parking was a bit of an issue (as it would be anywhere in Whitby - nothing to do with the flat itself). We parked opposite the Co-op. This will definitely be my property of choice if I manage to holiday in Whitby again. Thank you for the bottle of wine - that was a nice surprise!

  • "The good bits; The property is absolutely ideal for a couple who are reasonably fit."

It has a prime location in Whitby town centre only yards from the bus station, railway station, the harbour and local shops. Internally the apartment is very well appointed and very spacious. everything you need is provided and is of good quality. The bad bits; parking is not possible close to the property. Car parks are available within a 10 minute walk at a cost of £9.00/day or pro rata. After a call to the property owner, guidance was given to where on-street parking was available, however, this was quite a distance from the property and on a very steep hill.[hence the fitness comment]. The owner provided scratch cards to facilitate on-street parking for the duration of our stay. There is no access to the rear of the property from the inside { fire safety issue] so rubbish had to be taken on quite a trek to the rear of the property and placed in the relative bins in the back yard. All that aside, we had a very enjoyable stay at the Bolthole Whitby..

Thank you for your feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again. I would just like to point out to future guests that the free parking scratchcards supplied can be used close to the property on Walker St. I would also like to point out that the flat has one entrance as do all flats. The property meets all current fire regulations. Property Owner

Very spacious and a very comfortable kingsize bed after saming what Whitby has to offer. We would most certainly stay here again.

Only down side is no parking you that wasn't an issue for us as we parked in an unrestricted area, just bit of a walk to the apartment, but it wasn't a problem. Very large spacious apartment, good facilities, only down side is the bedroom has blinds and they didn't complete shut properly so had daylight coming through early morning, could do with black out blinds fitting really or something better replacing what is in situ already. But wouldn't put us off coming back to stay.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again. I will have a look at the blinds in the bedroom. For future guests please note, the scratchcards we supply can be used in Walker St also. Parking is on a public road but with a bit of patience you can usually get a space. Property Owner

A quality 4 seasons quilt would be much more comfortable with the changing temperatures. Parking wasn't an issue as we know Whitby well, there is plenty of parking around Pannett Park. Internet and smart TV have now been installed. This service in this part of Whitby has only just become available.
