The ancient fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally situated for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire with its superb coastline and the spectacular North York Moors. Communal grounds lead down to the river, a haven for wildlife, with seals, swans and ducks regularly seen, whilst historic Whitby is close by with its long, sandy beaches, cobbled market place and quaint shops and tea rooms. Climb the 199 steps up to the famous Whitby Abbey, take a boat trip out to sea, discover the excellent restaurants or taste the wonderful fish and chips! The surrounding area from this Whitby cottage has a wealth of attractions, including the stunning North York Moors, pretty coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, the famous steam railway, not to be missed, and a trip to ‘Aidensfield’ – Hearbeat country.
