Sleights is ideal for both a coastal and country holiday. Just 4 miles from the picturesque Yorkshire coastline, it is also on the edge of dramatic moors country, littered with attractive villages and scenery. Though quiet, Sleights boasts two pubs, a fish and chip shop, an antique shop (with cafe), a butchers, bakery and a post office. The North Yorkshire Steam Railway terminus is a few minutes’ drive, together with regular public transport to and from the nearby port of Whitby. Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally situated for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire. It is an atmospheric town of winding streets and hidden alleys, with a picturesque harbour, safe sandy beaches and, of course, the Abbey, reached by the famous 199 steps.

Sleights 0.5 miles. A fabulous, detached stone period property, a former farmhouse, in the hamlet of Iburndale on the edge of Sleights village. Oozing olde worlde charm and character, this delightful Sleights cottage retains beamed ceilings, stripped boarded doors and original fireplaces. Upstairs in this Sleights cottage are three spacious bedrooms, one boasting a double ended bath, each individually styled to provide very restful sleeping accommodation. Equally spacious, the downstairs sitting room and dining room are traditionally furnished with a homely feel, in keeping with the age of the property. With an open fire in the sitting room, a woodburner in the dining room and an AGA in the kitchen, this Sleights cottage is warm and comfortable and a joy to come back to after a day out exploring the local area. This Sleights cottage is perfect for a family break or friends get together. A special feature of this Sleights cottage are the private, extensive gardens, both front and back with mature trees and shrubs and a cobbled courtyard – you can just imagine the horses being tethered there in bygone years! Sleights village has excellent amenities, with a renowned butcher’s, local baker’s and grocer’s, plus two pubs which both serve food. A five minute drive brings you into the popular seaside town of Whitby, with its pretty harbour, narrow winding streets and famous Abbey. Climb the 199 steps up to the Abbey, take a bracing cliff top walk on the Cleveland Way or sample the famous fish and chips! With its long sandy beaches, complete with donkeys’ in the summer months and excellent eateries, Whitby has something for everyone. Explore the spectacular North York Moors, take a trip back in time on the steam railway or discover the many pretty inland and coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes, Sandsend and Goathland (home of 'Heartbeat'). A truly wonderful Sleights cottage, whatever the time of year.
