This historic market town, with its full range of amenities and with its traditional shops, pubs and restaurants, serves as the official gateway to the beautiful North York Moors National Park. Enjoy a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway – Harry Potter fans can even explore some of the locations used in the filming of the Philosopher’s Stone! The Beck Isle Museum is also well worth a visit with its unique collection of black and white photography and displays of rural life. Walkers will be spoilt for choice by the rolling hills, valleys, rivers and abundant wildlife of the North York Moors, whilst the City of York and the Heritage Coast are just half an hour’s drive. All in all, a wonderful setting for a relaxing holiday.

The Property

A sweet terraced property, originally an old railway cottage, in the market town of Pickering, the gateway to the North York Moors. Steep cottage stairs lead up to two pretty and traditionally furnished bedrooms, with views towards the station. Outside this Pickering cottage is a communal path that leads up to a small, sunny garden with a lovely little summer house – the perfect spot to sit and listen to the sounds of the steam trains, whilst enjoying a morning cup of coffee! With all the amenities of the town on the doorstep, this Pickering cottage is ideally placed, with an excellent selection of pubs, tea rooms, individual shops and restaurants and a weekly farmers’ market. Take a stroll up to the impressive castle, visit Beck Isle Museum, and not to be missed, a trip on the steam railway. Surrounded by the beautiful heather-clad moors, there are good walking and touring opportunities, with numerous stately homes in the vicinity and the seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough within easy reach.
