York 8 miles.
The rural linear village of Flaxton lies 8 miles to the north east of the historic city of York. Traditional village houses line the main street with wide grass verges, and an old country inn is the focal point of the community. Surrounded by open countryside, Flaxton is close to the Howardian Hills and their Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Flaxton is 6 miles from Castle Howard, made famous by the filming of Brideshead Revisited, and has stunning grounds, garden centre and up-market tea room and farm shop. Take the Park and Ride into York to explore The Jorvik Viking Centre, National Railway Museum, York Minster or walk the walls and ancient cobbled streets. York offers two good theatres, cinemas and excellent restaurants and shops. The east coast resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are within easy reach of Flaxton - as are the stunning North York Moors.

Previous visitors' comments about Ivy Cottage:
Ivy Cottage was lovely, quaint and idyllic. The location was perfect to visit York and spots north and east of York. We used the park and ride system which worked perfectly for York. There was a lovely home made sponge cake waiting for us on our arrival.

Beautiful little cottage. The owners were lovely when communicating about key collection and they even left milk and cake for us! Everything about the cottage was lovely - nice comfy beds and lovely decor. The local pub was only a minute away which does great home cooked food. Also a great base for visiting York, and surrounding areas, definitely recommend this cottage!

It was a lovely cottage, perfect for our needs, well decorated and furnished, very clean and everything you'd need.
Mrs Bowler, Norwich, November 2012
The property was ideal for a holiday for myself, my husband and our dog. It has been beautifully decorated and furnished, and it is clear the owners have gone to great lengths to ensure we had a comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family, and may well return again in the future.
