The village of Allerthorpe is two miles from the pretty market town of Pocklington, nestling at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds in the Vale of York. Allerthorpe has a pub, and there is a golf course, fishing and watersports available nearby. Pocklington is best known for Burnby Hall Gardens, with its beautiful gardens, lakes and National Collection of water lilies. Pocklington’s Arts Centre features national shows, acts and films. The town also has a weekly market. Nearby are various cycle and walkways including the North Sea cycle route, and long-distance walks along the Wolds Way, including the David Hockney trail. There are several famous attractions nearby, including majestic Castle Howard, beautiful Sledmere House and of course, the historic city of York.
