The village of Loftus lies 12 miles north of Whitby on the east coast of Yorkshire. Originally an old alum mining village, it comprises terraced houses, old stone cottages and a few grand stone dwellings. The long and lively main street hosts a variety of shops, eateries, pubs, banks and an impressive town hall. Lying behind the main street is a leisure centre with an excellent swimming pool. Loftus is well placed for discovering the small coastal villages of Runswick Bay and Staithes, the latter being a popular choice for artists. Four miles to the north is the elegant spa town of Saltburn with its golf club and long pier stretching over the wide sands. The stunning North Yorkshire Moors countryside is on the doorstep and the Jurassic fossil coast lies to the south.

This cosy Loftus cottage provides comfortable accommodation for couples or small families wishing to discover the North York Moors and the dramatic Heritage east coast. The bright and comfortable sitting room of this Loftus cottage leads into a well-equipped, country-style kitchen whilst the cottage stairs lead up to two cheerful bedrooms. A small enclosed, covered yard at the rear of this Loftus cottage offers alternative dining in the summer months. The lively village of Loftus has good amenities with pubs, eating places and a variety of shops. An excellent indoor swimming pool is available at the local leisure centre and there are a number of golf courses in the area. Close by is the historic Spa town of Saltburn with its elegant architecture, cliff lift and one of the longest piers in England. This Loftus cottage is well placed for visiting the beautiful, long sandy beaches on this coastline, including the beach at Skinningrove, just ten minutes' walk away. The Cleveland Way can be reached on foot in just five minutes, while a short drive brings you to the pretty seaside port of Whitby, renowned for its famous fish and chips, colourful beach huts and famous abbey. Why not explore the picturesque fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay with their narrow cobbled streets and fishermen’s cottages tumbling down into the sea? With the North York Moors National Park on the doorstep as well as the dramatic coastline, this Loftus cottage provides a good base for a memorable holiday.
