  • "Thank you for a very pleasant stay."

The cottage is extremely well equipped and easily walkable to Aviemore. A well equipped welcome tray was prepared for arrival, though we would love to see Fairtrade products used. The only minor issue (twin vs double bed) was sorted out within hours by the owner, who has excellent communication. The garden is very nice, should you be lucky enough to have good weather, and the conservatory makes a lovely dining room and relaxation in the rain! We didn't have need of a log fire, but there was plentiful wood. A huge TV and DVD player were welcome in the evenings. Nearby is a Fish and Chip shop, Pizzaria and Co-Op, with a large Tesco and Aldi etc in Aviemore itself. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your time at Steam Cottage and we hope to welcome you again soon. Property Owner

The kitchen was very well equipped (including an oven dish the right size for baking camembert!). A very quiet location. Didnt take full advantage of the bathtub, but it was great to be able to soak tired feet while showering! Clear instructions and good communication with the owners.

  • "I have booked with you before and upon entering I have said this is lovely, I did not get this feeling with cottage, It just did not look as nice as it looked on booking."

It looked rather dull a couple of the chairs in the living room one looked rather dirty, the other had stains and even the sofa coverings looked in need of a wash the sofa was a little tired. The fire glass was black you could not see it when lit it was in need of a good clean. My preference when it comes to towels in rented places they should be white, like the bedding that was lovely clean and white. The cooker hood had not been given a clean for quite sometime so was the cottage give a full COVID CLEAN in the first place. The hoover was full of dirt it had not been emptied for us. I left a note for the owner about that and the cooker hood. I was under the impression with COVID all places are given a more thorough clean, and I feel this was not a shame really because it is a nice cottage and with the Steam Train running at the back it really could be a beautiful place if only give just a quick coat of paint more where the fire is because the ceiling has not been done when that fire was put in. Sorry to complain but if people keep writing in the visitors book all is lovely things will never be sorted.

We are sorry to hear that you have not experienced our usual high standards of cleanliness during your recent visit. I have passed your comments onto my cleaner so that they may address the issues raised accordingly. Unfortunately we had a leak from the water tank which caused water damage to the living room ceiling just prior to re-opening and this has taken longer to repair than we would have liked due to availability of parts. We have new sofas for both the living room and conservatory on order and they are due to be delivered in early July. I can also confirm that the living room chair has now been replaced. Thank you for taking the time to bring these issues to my attention. We ask that guests bring issues to our attention as soon as they arise, if possible during their stay, in order that we can respond immediately. Once again please accept my apologies for not receiving the standard either you or we would expect. Property Owner

  • "Arriving late in the evening, in the rain, not an issue, however if the outside light was on a sensor it would have made things a lot easier to unlock the small key safe and made for a pleasant arrival."

We also received an email, requesting the arrival time, we assumed this was so the heating would have been put on to make our arrival nice and cosy! Being in the hospitality business ourselves, it appeared with the long list of do's and don'ts was a little unwelcoming. We felt very uncomfortable that if we did not leave with everything done, we would be charged, as we had to leave really early this was a challenge. Obviously in hospitality, we all need to make a buck or two, but good/excellent service does play an important role in this. Based on the above, we would find it very difficult to recommend to our friends

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at Steam Cottage. I was sorry to hear that the heating was not on on your arrival, this should have been the case and I can only apologise that it was not. Thank you for the suggestion of a sensor for the light at the entrance door. This is a great idea and we are hoping to install a new light within the next few weeks. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cosy bungalow in a spectacular location."

spending great days in the splendour of autumn, with stunning colours, and well managed forests. Footpaths are well maintained and everywhere is litter free. I had a morning doing a hilltop walk with the rangers and other walkers to meet up with the herds of very friendly, yet wild reindeer. This had to be the highlight of my holiday. Then to return to a lovely warm and welcoming bungalow - just couldn't be better. It was great to see the steam train running across the bottom of the garden, and of course we had a trip on the train, ending with lunch in the cairngorm hotel. The people in Scotland are very friendly and helpful. I would definitely go again and recommend steam cottage to all my friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

It would be a good idea to put some hand rails on the wall. and maybe a non slip mat in the bath. Being of a certain age, It can be very treacherous trying to step in and out of the bath and some help from a hand rail would be an advantage, the ones on the side of the bath are too low down. Also the water from the shower is not very warm. Everything else couldn't have been better, we had a great holiday, Thank you.
