Inverness 20 miles.
Often compared to a Bavarian Mountain resort, the picturesque spa village of Strathpeffer owes its growth to the discovery of water springs during the 1700's, declared in 1819 to be the healthiest drinking water in Britain! The original Spa Pavilion has been magnificently restored after a period of disuse and now serves as a venue for a variety of events including concerts, dances, dramas and exhibitions. The former Victorian railway station, which in times past brought many visitors from near and far, has now been beautifully restored to house craft workers and their shops, whilst also being home to the Highland Museum of Childhood, a superb exhibition about childhood in the Highlands of Scotland. Sample the spring water in the restored Pump house (also a Tourist Information point), take a walk along a forest track, or enjoy the views from the nearby pictish hill fort at Knock Farril. Whatever you decide there's plenty on offer for all the family.
Strathpeffer 1.5 miles. Two detached, custom-built timber chalets, set in the owner’s grounds in the hamlet of Heights of Achterneed, high above the valley overlooking the Victorian spa village of Strathpeffer. A superb alternative to more traditional Scotland cottages, the chalets are well maintained and equipped, with bright, welcoming rooms and comfortable furnishings. Each chalet enjoys its own veranda with furniture - ideal for making the most of the views over distant hills and forests. Strathpeffer has good local shops, a hotel, restaurants and visitors centres. Guests may also enjoy the challenging golf course, river and loch fishing, and walks to suit most abilities, including over Munro and Ben Wyvis. An excellent base for exploring the coastal villages of the Black Isle, the mountains of Glen Affric and the rugged splendour of the North West Highlands, or enjoying the amenities of Dingwall, 4.5 miles away. Previous visitors' comments about Larchfield Chalet 2:
The peace and quiet. The views were lovely especially after the snowfall. Great for our dog, she loved the walks. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely break.
Mrs Kopczyk, Cupar, December 2011
Owners were friendly and very helpful with questions about the area. No problems with the accommodation whatsoever. Ideal for us as we have two Labradors. Hassle free relaxing time away from home. Not often that we get time off together and we would go back tomorrow if we could.
Mr Johnstone, Gullane, November 2011
It's position was very central for touring. The proprietors were very helpful and friendly and left wine and chocolates for arrival which was a nice touch. The place was spotless and there was everything you might need including towels for the dog!
Mrs Plastow, Honiton, October 2011
The property was very pleasant and the owners are very nice and friendly!
