Acklington is a small rural village located just a few miles from the coast and its near neighbour Warkworth. The village has a pub with bar and restaurant (open weekends only in the winter) and, with the many activities and groups held locally, offers a real sense of community spirit. The River Coquet meanders past the village, with a picturesque view from Guyzance Bridge. There is a limited bus and train service to Alnwick, Newcastle and Alnmouth, and the whole of the coast is within easy driving distance. Warkworth, 4 miles away, is a pretty village, dominated by the dramatic ruins of its 12th Century castle. The main street is lined with Georgian and early Victorian houses and there is an exceptional range of galleries and antique shops, a village shop-cum-post office, pubs, restaurants and gift shops to suit all tastes. Warkworth has its own stretch of sandy beach and a 9-hole 'pay and play' golf course. Also within easy touring distance are Hadrian's Wall, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, the Farne Islands, several wonderful beaches and Alnwick Garden with its remarkable water cascade.

Acklington 1 mile. These three cosy Northumbria cottages lie on the outskirts of the rural village of Acklington, and are situated next to a traditional pub and near to the convenience of a railway station. These single-storey cottages have been furnished to a good standard and provide welcoming bedrooms, all with en-suites, and one even has a four poster bed. These light and airy Northumbria cottages have a comfy sitting room, which is perfect to relax in after a busy day exploring the area, a well-equipped, fitted kitchen and dining area. The cottages are built alongside the historic Railway Inn, once the watering hole for airmen stationed at the nearby air base. There is so much to see and do in the area, with the beautiful coastline offering miles of golden sands, the stunning Northumberland National Park and the picturesque villages of the Heritage Coast all nearby. Within driving distance are the wonderful Alnwick Castle, made famous as Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter films, Warkworth Castle, and the National Trust owned Cragside House and Gardens. The cottage is in an excellent location in a lovely area. All the staff at the next door pub were very friendly and welcomed our dog without reservation. The cottage is modern, clean, comfortable and relaxing. It set the tone for our holiday and I would recommend Dove Cottage to everyone.

The location is excellent for both coast and countryside. We received a warm welcome from the hosts with lots of advice regarding local points of interest. It was lovely to have an on-site pub with a restaurant.
