The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the “Harry Potter” films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.

Quality real ale pubs are close by, notably the John Bull, as are charming, quaint shops. Visit Alnmouth, just 4 miles away, or explore the nearby Heritage coast with its excellent walks and trails. The National Trust’s Cragside House and the romantic 16th century Lindisfarne Castle, offering spectacular views over Holy Island and beyond, are also well worth a visit.

The apartment was very cosy and homely and so fully equipped, that we couldn't think of anything extra we'd need. There was a welcome pack on arrival including a bottle of wine - a very pleasant and thoughtful welcome. The location was unusual but quiet and yet within walking distance of the town centre, shops and many restaurants and cafes. The local pub was only a 2 minute walk down the road and was very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed touring around Northumberland - a beautiful county - our highlight being a trip to the Farne Islands to see the nesting sea birds.

This apartment was quiet and private but with all the town's facilities within easy walking distance. It was spotless and fresh. The owners were very helpful and we were greeted with a hospitality basket which included wine!

I thought the apartment was in a good location, close to Alnwick Castle and gardens. Also ideal for seeing all the surrounding places of interest, eg Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne on Holy Island. We had a good break, even though the weather that week was mixed - we knew we had a good apartment to return to. Would recommend to friends and family.
