Loved piano and we had a lot of singing nights so very pleased cottage was detached! Local pub small and very friendly. Plenty of things to do - visitors would need a car. Would definitely recommend and hope to return myself. Thank you

Thanks very much for your great feedback. Glad you enjoyed your time at the cottage and especially the piano inspired entertainment! Hope to see you back again in the future. Kind regards, Peter. Property Owner

  • "We all had a lovely week at the cottage."

The piano was good entertainment and the games room too for the kids. Just a few minor things. The French door is hard to lock and unlock, the decking was a bit slippy and the shower upstairs collected a lot of water and I had to unblock the toilet a couple of times. The plumbing seems to make a noise when running the taps. This did not affect our stay at all and we would stay again and recommend. Laney & Neil and the rest of the Wignalls

The cottage itself is spacious and comfortable as well as being very well equipped, all the kitchen kit you might need including coffee machine (essential!), plenty of pots, pans, crockery cutlery and glasses which can sometimes be lacking in a holiday let! The garden was fantastic for the kids to play in and we enjoyed sitting on the large deck to eat our meals outside. The games room was a bonus which the kids also enjoyed. But the comfort of the place was uncomfortable. Mattresses on beds in 3 rooms are old and worn out. One member of our party has come away with a bad back. The corner settee in the main sitting room is very old , worn and uncomfortable. It is time that Sykes made sure that owners update the furniture in holiday homes to a better standard. Mattresses should be changed every 8 yrs at least. We were hoping to catch up with our Netflix and other viewing while on holiday in the evenings but unfortunately this holiday home does not have one smart TV between the 3 in the house. Surely in these modern times this would be a facility one would expect. Especially when paying £900 a week !

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. I am sorry and disappointed to read that you did not think of your time at Millennium Cottage as comfortable. We have not had complaints regarding the comfort of the beds or mattresses before so this was surprising to read, we are sorry that you felt affected your stay and will monitor future reviews about this. We do not list a Smart TV in the amenities of the property but we do provide an Amazon Fire Stick in one of the TV's which has lots of shows and apps on for you to use. I hope the points you have raised did not ruin your stay at Millennium Cottage. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week at Millennium Cottage."

It was very spacious and very well kitted out. The children had plenty of room to play, we did venture outside into the gardens, which were extensive, but it was very cold and one of our grandchildren is used to much warmer climates so having the space inside the cottage was great. When we arrived the house was spotless and there was a very generous 'Welcome' pack. The log fire was tremendous and when this was on, we didn't need the heating on. All the bedrooms were of generous proportions and there was plenty of wardrobes and drawers. The washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher were much appreciated additions. The only negative is that the photos show that there is a bath and there isn't, although the written information clearly states that it is two shower rooms, so my fault for not checking, but we managed with the baby bath that was provided as the children were small enough to get in it. A car is an essential requirement when staying here, as there doesn't appear to be a bus that comes through and there is only a small convenience store and a pub. Thanks again for a wonderful week, would definitely book again.

2 double bedrooms, 2 twin rooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 lounges and a games room - great. And in the Summer months great outdoor spaces. With a little TLC it could be amazing! With the house being in a village we werent expecting quite as much noise, it is metres from a very busy train line and level crossing, and the road through the village was quite busy too with HGVs. When we arrived there was a terrible smell on opening the utility room door, the washing machine had stagnant water in the door seal and was absolutely filthy, took a fair bit of cleaning and several washes (empty) to get it to a useable standard. The master bedroom had a memory foam mattress but the other beds would benefit from new mattresses as they were rather flat and springs could be felt.

The welcome pack was a very generous surprise. We have used Sykes for many holidays now and this is one of the best holiday cottages we have used. We only have one minor grouse. When we booked, there was a bath installed in the upstairs bathroom, however this was later replaced by a shower and we were not informed by Sykes until 7 weeks before our holiday, which left us with a bit of a dilemma as our grandchildren are unhappy in showers and there was little time to find alternative accommodation. The lack of a bath didn't prove to be a major problem - it would just have been nice to have had a bit more notice.

The combined dining area and kitchen was great for socialising around the table. The beds were all very comfortable - no complaints. The log fire was an added bonus and easy to maintain. The house was actually warm and cosy enough without it but it added to the magic. The configuration of bedrooms, bathrooms and two sitting rooms proved ideal for our very mixed party of friends and family but would equally adapt to families with kids or elderly and less mobile relatives. We were there in the middle of winter so we couldn't really take advantage of the outdoor facilities - decking, gardens, bbq etc. Some nice local walks and lots to do nearby although the local seaside could do with better parking at peak times. (Christmas week for us - and couldn't get near Craster!) The convenience store in Embleton is friendly and well stocked - unlike the laughable local shop in Christon Bank! We'll definitely be back in the summer!
