Location: Amble-by-the-sea

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters - the daily catch can be bought at a fish shop in the harbour. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.

Previous visitors' comments about Bonnie’s Rest:

We enjoyed visiting this area as we have never been to Northumberland before. The property is in a good location close to the town centre and beaches and harbour. There are good pubs and restaurants only minutes away.
Mr Redhead, Wakefield, September 2011

The cottage was perfect for our needs, with lots of bathroom space and a very high standard of furnishing - even a game of Monopoly for our one wet day! Northumberland is beautiful, and everyone we met was incredibly friendly. There was plenty to do in Amble, but it was convenient for lots of other interesting places as well. One of the best holidays we have had!
Mrs Witty, Hertford, August 2011

A modern, clean, tastefully decorated house well located within the town - the perfect base for sightseeing. The owner is very friendly and just a text away for any local tips such as the best fish and chip shop - delicious! The local beaches and countryside are beautiful - Bamburgh is particularly stunning with the backdrop of its castle. We had the perfect boat trip to the Farne Islands amid glorious sunshine, where we had a tour of the lighthouse and got almost within touching distance of the seals. Fantastic!
