Location: Otterburn

Bellingham 7 miles; Alnwick 29 miles.

The delightful village of Otterburn, once the site of the famous 1388 victory of the Scots over the English, nestles close to the banks of the River Rede, between the hills and moors overlooking the North Tyne Valley. It offers excellent walking opportunities and is on a variety of popular routes for cyclists. Hadrian's Wall and the beautiful Kielder Forest and Waters are close by, providing fantastic fishing, horse riding and nature watching, amidst superb, tranquil countryside. Otterburn is the former home of a busy weaving industry, and the world famous Otterburn Mill marks the village's historic past. Nearby Bellingham, built predominantly from local stone and slate, houses a handful of pubs, shops and tea-rooms and a highly regarded 18 hole golf course. Visit the nearby, majestic, stately homes of Wallington Hall and Cragside, or the historic market town of Alnwick, with its stunning castle and gardens, a mere 40 minute drive. Otterburn is a superb location for a relaxing holiday, any time of year.

Previous visitors' comments about Drovers Rest:

We (me, my husband and our dog Cody) had a really good week's break walking in this beautiful area. The location of the cottage provided a excellent base from which to explore the area, from Kielder to the Cheviotts and Hadrians Wall to the Coast, all within a reasonable driving distance through lovely countryside. The cottage itself was of a high standard, clean and comfortable, with excellent views in a peaceful setting and a pleasant garden to relax in. It had everything we needed (and more). The owners were very welcoming and whilst they are nearby should you need anything they also gave us our privacy. The shop in Otterburn was well stocked with all the essentials and local produce needed for the stay. We would definitely consider staying here again.
Mrs Knowles, Ashbourne, May 2011

We liked the home comforts that Drovers Rest provided for us. Upon our arrival the owners even provided a vase full of lovely daffodils which was very welcoming. After long days out it was a pleasure to return to the cottage each evening. The facilities were excellent and it was ideally situated being central to most places of interest. Northumbria is a wilderness of beauty - we thoroughly enjoyed this holiday.
Ms Clayton, Nottingham, March 2011

The cottage was comfortable and in a lovely position. Nice pub a mile up the road. Ideal for avid walkers and cyclists.
Mrs Rogers, Rotherham, July 2010

The splendid views surrounding the property gave a feeling of being miles from anywhere and anybody. However, there were numerous interesting places to visit within very easy distance and good food available at the pub 1 mile up the road.
