Location: Berwick-upon-tweed

Alnwick 35 miles; Holy Island 10 miles; Edinburgh 56 miles.

Berwick is England’s most northerly town and changed hands 13 times whilst the English and the Scots fought for control of the Borders! Nowadays this small coastal town retains much of its charm, with quaint narrow streets enclosed within great Elizabethan walls - walks along these offer spectacular views over the coast and river estuary. The town offers excellent amenities including shops/supermarkets, restaurants and pubs, whilst the Maltings Arts Centre provides an extensive programme of cultural events including music, theatre and cinema. Fishing, golf and riding are all available locally and there is a leisure centre in the town offering a pool with waves and flume. Two miles away is the seaside resort of Spittal, with its sandy beaches. Berwick has excellent public transport and there is a frequent train service to both Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Previous visitors' comments about The Ramparts:

We enjoyed the spacious and comfortable property itself, the historic building and area it's in, the peace and quiet, the easy access to the town, the fortifications, the cliffs, and the beaches.
Mr Marks, 84-360 Łeba, August 2011

Everything about the house was superb, couldn't ask for a better house to spend our holiday in.
Mr Millican, Glasgow, July 2011

The welcome from the owner's mum was impeccable - we received a 'welcome pack' which was unexpected and the view to the walls was lovely.
Dr Viccary, Keighley, May 2011

A lovely apartment within the wonderful walled town. Completely self-contained without any shared areas, which meant it actually felt more like a house than a flat. The owner was very welcoming.
Mr Warnock, Manchester, February 2011
