  • "Fabulous cottage!"

Fabulous owner who came to see we were ok. Altogether a fabulous week.

  • "The hosts were so helpful."

They took a real pride in their cottage. It was lovely. It was warm and welcoming. It had everything you could have wanted. Everything in it was of high quality. The area is outstanding with so much to see and do. We had the most wonderful time. I would recommend this cottage highly. Thank you Bilton Barns!

Owners were very friendly and welcoming and quick to deal with the couple of minor issues we had. Ideal location for visiting the stunning Northumberland coastline.

  • "Great cottage with friendly helpful owners and stunning views of the beautiful rolling countryside in which it is located just a short distance from the wonderful harbour village of Alnmouth."

Numerous walks available in the countryside straight from the front door. Have already recommended to friends and would definitely go again.

  • "This was a lovely cottage with plenty of room for 6 adults, (we especially appreciated the 2 bathrooms)."

There are 3 cottages together in the area we stayed but everything was well soundproofed, we heard nothing from our neighbours or from the working farm around us. The area is ideal for exploring the coast with lovely walls in Alnmouth and boat trips from Seahouses. Alnwick is about 10 minutes away with local independent shops sitting in amongst cafes and pubs enough for everyone (Star Wars fans, make your way to Penn Gallery for the Highlands Stormtroopers). Dorothy popped her head in on the morning we were leaving to wish us all a safe journey home, and it is little things like this that will ensure I recommend this property.

  • "Fantastic cottage and location, ideal for exploring the surrounding area."

The cottage was clean, comfortable, well equipped with beautiful sea views from the upstairs bedrooms, everything you could ask for. The owners were friendly and welcoming and even let us feed the lambs which was a lovely experience. Although the cottage is on a working farm we did not hear any noise, it was so peaceful. Would highly recommend staying at Bilton Barns Farm and we will certainly book again.

  • "Always tempting to give poor feedback when you find a gem so that you can still manage to book it for yourself."

However, my stay at Dorothy Cottage was just what I needed after a very taxing 4 years. I needed peace and comfort to recover from the illness and subsequent death of my husband. That is exactly what I got at this cottage. The facilities were great, the cottage was comfortable and warm. Even though it is situated on a working farm, there was no real noise of machinery, etc. Dorothy, herself, was extremely welcoming and I was invited to the farmhouse for coffee if I found being in the cottage on my own a little lonely. So many great places to visit - turn right for the coast, straight on for Barter Books and Alnwick, turn left for the coastal route to Warkworth and Amble (and the best fish and chip shop). M&S Food Hall about 6 miles away very handily placed to stock up. On the whole, one of the best holidays I have had - reading, eating, sleeping and walking on the beautiful beach at Alnmouth. A chance to re-visit places I remembered from my childhood. Thank you, Dorothy and Brian (and Catherine) for letting people enjoy your beautiful cottages and surroundings and for being so welcoming and helpful. I will see you again soon!!!

  • "A really lovely cottage in a superb location."

Very comfortable beds and living room furniture and beautiful outside area. Excellent situation for days out up and down the coast. Clean, plentiful hot water, efficient heating and generous supply of fuel for the stove. If there are any small niggles it would be that the hob is not good to use and the lighting in the living room could be better.

The owners Dorothy & Brian Jackson were absolutely charming and helpful. We in fact stayed 2 weeks in Dorothy's Cottage as the owner arranged for the family who had booked for our second week to have Brian's Cottage instead, thus saving our having to exit with all our luggage by 10am and return at 4.30pm - a very thoughtful solution. A super week.

It was extremely comfortable and we felt at home from the very first evening. The owner's daughter Katherine was there to meet us and was very helpful explaining things and answering our questions. She was very welcoming. The cottage was spacious and well-equipped for our needs. The cottage is in an ideal location for walking on the Northumberland coastal path, visiting Holy Island, Alnwick and Bamburgh castles and National Trust properties. The holiday was made even better by the good weather we experienced. Although there was a cold wind on the coast it was fine all week and we had lots of sunny days. We would certainly return to the cottage for another holiday.

We found it to be comfortable and clean but the carpets may not be to your liking, especially if you prefer hard floors. For example, if you have allergies or just don’t like the idea of carpets from a cleanliness point of view. All in all, a well equipped cottage in a great location.

The cottage was warm and comfortable. Tastefully decorated to match the property and fully equipped. We stayed for 4 nights over Christmas and with the log burner, and Christmas tree provided, felt very much at home. We needed to ask a couple of questions and Dorothy and Brain sorted these out very quickly, including coming straight up to show us how to work the electric Cooker! We would certainly book to stay at this cottage again regardless of the time of year - though perhaps we'll opt for the summer next time so we can appreciate the wonderful setting and countryside.
