  • "We had an amazing time."

The cottage was lovely and comfortable. We enjoyed being on a working farm and it was fascinating to see what goes on. The owners were very friendly and helpful. All being well, we would love to return again.

  • "The house is as described, clean and comfortable."

Sadly a very poor welcome pack... Not even a pint of milk!! Not the best considering the distance from any shops and the condition of the access road which certainly leaves a lot to be desired, really deep pot holes in places which must loose you a lot of return customers.

  • "Stephens Cottage was perfect for our week in Northumberland."

The family who own the farm looked after us really well. We got to feed the baby lambs with bottled milk and meet the cows. Plenty of places to visit around suggest Cragside NT, Holy Island, Eat at The Fish Shack 10-15 mins away. If you like books visit barter books. Visit Craster and walk to Dunstanburg?? Castle. I would highly recommend Stephens cottage. Just be aware that the long access to the farm is an uneven and bumpy track. This was not a problem to us at all just took it steady.

  • "We had a fantastic week staying in Stephens cottage."

It’s perfectly located with so many beautiful places nearby. Alnmouth was within walking distance from the cottage along a footpath through the fields. We also visited Craster, Alnwick castle, Bamburgh, Amble and Warkworth, all of which were less than 30minutes drive away. The owners, Dorothy and Brian, were extremely welcoming and even let our children bottle feed their lambs which made their week. The cottage was actually recommended to us by a friend and we would definitely recommend it to other people too.

  • "We love the Alnwick, Alnmouth, Warkworth, Amble area and the beautiful coastline."

We are familiar with the area and have stayed at a few other cottages in the area previously - whilst all have been lovely, we found Stephen’s cottage to be the best yet. Ideally located for exploring and walking, or just relaxing. The owners Dorothy and Brian were lovely and welcoming. The accommodation was clean, comfortable, well equipped, warm and peaceful (despite being on a working farm). We enjoyed a very relaxing break and would highly recommend to others. We hope to return later in the year.

Very helpful owner . Cleaning spray would have been helpful and the access lane was more suited to tractors and some hardcore filling would be a nice gesture but had nice stay with comfy beds and well equipped house

The views of the surrounding coast and countryside were stunningly beautiful. A lot of thought and care had been taken to provide the perfect level of comfort for a countryside holiday. I stayed with two friends who were as impressed as I was. Our holiday was definitely enhanced by the care and consideration of owner Dorothy , and her daughter Catherine , who could not have been more hospitable. We look forward to visiting again.

It was warm and homely and the 2 bathrooms were very useful. It is well positioned for visiting lots of Northumbrian sights and also has a train station should you want to go further afield. We had a lovely week there with plenty of wildlife around the farm grounds to see. We would definitely stay again.

  • "We had a lovely stay over Christmas in this cosy cottage."

The Christmas tree and decorations were a nice touch. We booked Stephen's and Brian's together for 12 adults, a baby and a toddler and there was plenty of room for us all. They would be great for big groups to book together as the garden goes right across the back of all 3 cottages. Dorothy responded well to my contact before the trip and was very accommodating. To top it all, her husband used his tractor on Christmas morning to tow out one of our cars which had got stuck in a field! Would definitely recommend.

  • "Stephen's Cottage is beautiful, and exactly as described on the website."

The owners are very friendly and couldn't be more helpful, checking with us on arrival that everything was ok and that we had all that we needed. Unfortunately, we had to cut short our holiday almost as soon as we arrived, due to a Covid case in our party, so did not have the opportunity to make the most of the beautiful surroundings and all that Northumberland has to offer. A word of warning to Sykes customers taking out the insurance policy at the time of booking as we did (in case of Covid): we assumed, wrongly, that it would cover having to curtail our holiday due to a Covid case; in fact, it only covers cancellation within the two weeks before the holiday commences. Our fault, as we did not check the wording carefully, but a very expensive mistake to make - we lost the total cost of our holiday, as well as our holiday itself. I would imagine many other people will be caught out in the same way; perhaps Sykes could offer more than one insurance policy on their booking page, with an option for curtailment cover too? This is no reflection at all on the lovely owners, who were very sympathetic and keen to help us in any way they could.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you unfortunately had to cut your holiday short due to someone in your party contracting Covid. When guests add insurance to their booking, we do send out the policy document and give guests a 14 day cooling off period if they feel they wish to cancel the policy. Any complaints regarding the policy cover should be made to the policy provider. Property Owner

The cottage has everything you need for a family of 4 to be comfortable and enjoy a quiet relaxing week in a beautiful part of the country. During our 2nd stay we were delighted to find a new blu ray player, oven and hob. The owners clearly take pride in their properties and are committed to providing their guests with up to date facilities. The neighbours were great when we stayed on both occasions and didn't mind our 2 young kids playing in the garden. One even said he has been twice a year for the past 15 years. Brian and dorothy are great hosts and are there if you need them but leave you to enjoy your stay in peace. My sykes experience has been great on both occasions and it is the first place I will check when booking a cottage in the future. The website is great, quality properties at any budget and communication is informative and unobtrusive. Quality of cottage = 10/10 Quality of sykes customer experience = 10/10

The cottage exceeded our expectations in terms of space, comfort etc. The children enjoyed sitting on the window-seats in the bedrooms. It was very well-equipped. The garden was a great space for the children to play in. The setting was beautiful; we spotted hares, bats etc, and were able to watch some of the harvesting processes at the farm. The farmer also explained some of his crops, and advised on local walks. One night, we followed the bridle-path running next to the cottage - it has a contant sea-view too.

  • ". Extremely disappointing. First of all, I cannot fault the cottage"

. It is large, clean, warm and comfortable. It has everything that we could practically need. However, If you are expecting to relax in the garden and enjoy the wonderful countryside surrounding you, you won't find it staying here. The garden is completely surrounded by approx 10ft high hedging, a 6ft wall and mature trees and the only other thing you can see is the sky ! There are no plants/shrubs or anything of interest in the garden apart from grass. The hedge is so high that even from upstairs you can only view the horizon. The photo of the garden, in my opinion, misleading. It is not as large as it appears. When sitting outside there is only approx 6-8ft until the next house. We could not sit in the garden or leave our door open because we could hear the full conversation of our neighbours (and they were not noisy neighbours). If all you want is a 'base' then this cottage would be fine, but if you are looking for a view - then you will be extremely disappointed. We left after 4 nights (having paid over £600 for 7 nights. I suggest the description should be updated to record the fact that there is no view. For us, it completely spoiled a holiday which we were very much looking forward to..
