Berwick-upon-Tweed 15 miles.
The small border town of Duns is set in a wide valley known as The Merse and was once the capital of the Scottish Borders, when the current capital, Berwick-upon-Tweed, was under English rule. The town offers a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants, whilst the Jim Clark Museum is open to the public in honour of the famous racing driver who lived in the area. There are many castles and historic houses scattered throughout the surrounding area, including Floors Castle and Gardens, the largest inhabited house in Scotland, Norham Castle situated on the River Tweed, Mellerstain House and Paxton House and Country Park. A short drive to the east coast offers the opportunity to explore the beaches at Coldingham, and superb golfing at Dunbar, whilst the nearby walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is well worth a visit! With Edinburgh just 40 minutes away by car and numerous other destinations within the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland just waiting to be discovered, this fantastic location provides a great base at any time of year!

Previous visitors' comments about Owl Cottage:
Liked the location and the cottage itself.
Cottage owners were on hand if we needed them and were extremely helpful. The thoughtful little extras were really appreciated.

Mr Goodfellow, Blyth, August 2009
The cottage was lovely and the owners very welcoming. The children particularly enjoyed collecting the eggs and the logs for the fire. The surrounding area has many attractions and we had beautiful weather which helped a great deal.
Mrs Purves, Oxford, August 2009
Nice quiet place to stay and relax, good location for walks and trips out. The cottage was on a working farm and we could get fresh eggs from the chickens at the bottom of the garden every day which added to the enjoyment of the holiday.
